Trademarks Famous Jameis

Winston files to trademark ‘Famous Jameis’, a moniker given to him by Florida State University football fans. Russ Spielman, a partner of The Legacy Agency which filed on Winston’s behalf:

We have begun taking steps to protect our client and his intellectual property rights. Right now, his sole focus is on football. We hope to utilize this way down the line.

Cleared of violating FSU’s conduct code

Winston is cleared of violating Florida State University’s conduct code after a hearing regarding Winston’s alleged sexual assault of a female FSU student in 2012. Retired Florida Supreme Court justice Major Harding, who conducted the hearing for FSU, writes a letter to Winston regarding his decision:

This was a complex case, and I worked hard to make sure both parties had a full and fair opportunity to present information. In sum, the preponderance of the evidence has not shown that you are responsible for any of the charge violations of the Code. Namely, I find that the evidence before me is insufficient to satisfy the burden of proof.

Suspended for entire game

Winston is suspended for the entire game against Clemson after shouting a comment derogatory to women on the Florida State campus. Back up quarterback Sean Maguire will start. Joint statement from Florida State interim president Dr. Garnett S. Stokes and athletic director Stan Wilcox:

Based upon the results of our continuing investigation of Tuesday’s incident involving Jameis Winston, we have decided to not play him for the entire game against Clemson on Saturday night.

Suspended for obscene remarks

Florida State quarterback Winston is suspended for the first half of the Seminoles’ home game Saturday against Clemson after shouting an obscene statement in the school’s student union. Florida States interim president, Garnett S. Stokes and Athletic Director Stan Wilcox’s joint statement:

As a result of his comments yesterday, which were offensive and vulgar, Jameis Winston will undergo internal discipline and will be withheld from competition for the first half of the Clemson game.

Winston calls his behavior “selfish” and says:

I did something, so I’ve got to accept my consequences. We’re going to think about moving forward and winning the game.
