Johnson and Dornan appear on the cover of Glamour. Johnson discusses how she prepared for her role as Ana in Fifty Shades of Grey.

Jamie and I actually shared a trainer. It was important to me that Ana’s body look like that of an active college student. And I was going be naked, so I wanted to look good. I did a lot of working out and had more waxing than any woman should have!

Fifty Shades of Grey

Film Appearance0 Comments

In this romance directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson based on a book by Kelly Marcel, Dornan plays Christian Grey, a rich businessman who gets romantically involved with a sexually inexperienced college girl, who discovers he is into sado-masochistic sex. Co-starring: Dakota Johnson, Rita Ora, Luke Grimes and Eloise Mumford.

I got through with a lot of apologies, you have to keep the intensity there, but maintain professionalism. At the end of the day, we’re all human beings and it can be uncomfortable to film things like that, so I just tried to make light of it

Dornan appears on the cover of the February 2015 issue of Details magazine. He talks about Fifty Shades of Grey and his fear of being murdered.

I almost don’t want to put this out there into the ether, but I fear I’ll get murdered, like John Lennon, by one of those mad fans at the premiere, because a lot of people are very angry that I’m playing this character. And I’m a father now, and a husband. I don’t want to die yet.

Dornan appears on the cover of the February 2015 issue of Elle UK magazine. He talks about Fifty Shades of Grey, whether the film is anti-feminist and his daughter.

I’ve had to be away the last couple of weekends, and I come back and I barely recognise her, and it’s awful; she changes so much. And then I have this huge fear that she won’t recognise me. The beard helps, but I had to shave it off a couple of times, so she’s been shocked for the first few hours. She looks at me like: “Do I love you? I think I love you.” I have to win back her trust.

Dornan is featured in Elle magazine. He talks about Fifty Shades of Grey and his character Christian Grey.

I wonder what it is about this set of books that has, excuse my pun, penetrated the global market. What is it that’s just so on the pulse of what women want? I think a lot of people try to undermine the whole thing. But it’s hard to undermine something that’s so successful. Mass appreciation doesn’t always equate to something good. Think of Hitler! But I think, in this case, it must. It simply must. There’s got to be merit in it if so many people agree.

Dornan is featured in British GQ magazine. He talks about his life and his character Christian Grey.

In the course of researching this character, I have seen the reality very closely. I can tell you from an alarmingly first-hand perspective it’s not altogether sexy. But I’ve been in a dungeon with a lukewarm beer while a dominant has had some fun with his submissive and it was very playful and jovial and not at all dark and serious. There was a lot of laughter…

Dornan appears on the cover of a November 2014 issue of Shortlist magazine. He talks about Fifty Shades of Grey.

Well, my wife is a brilliant, hugely understanding person, plus, she was an actress for ten years, so she’s aware of what it’s like. A lot of people would have had a sh*t fit at 30-something weeks pregnant, hearing, ‘Darling, we’re going to Vancouver this week for four months – we’re going to have a Canadian baby and I’m going to do a film where, for parts of it, I will be naked.’ That’s a tough pitch, but my wife is an incredible person.

Dornan is featured in The Observer magazine. He talks about his nudity in Fifty Shades of Grey.

You want to appeal to as wide an audience as possible without grossing them out. You don’t want to make something gratuitous, and ugly, and graphic. There were contracts in place that said that viewers wouldn’t be seeing my, um…, yeah, my todger.

Dornan appears on the cover of the June/July 2014 issue of Interview magazine. He talks about his role in Fifty Shades of Grey.

I want to keep an element of myself in every character I play. And maybe that’s connected to finding something that you like in every character. Maybe they coincide. I get that the job is to make people believe that you’re this guy, and the more you can kind of lose yourself in it . . . I don’t know what I’m saying.
