I had very little preparation. It’s modern. They sort of write it as they go along. So it’s more like an improvisational piece of work.

McTeer is nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 84th Academy Awards for portraying Hubert Page in Albert Nobbs.

We just giggled like mad, that our film, that took so long to get out the door, was getting recognized. The delay of gratification makes it more charming. It’s a small film with big heart, and we didn¹t have ton of money. Now hopefully more people will go and see it.

Albert Nobbs

McTeer plays Hubert Page, a house painter, in this drama directed by Rodrigo Garcia. Page befriends Albert Nobbs (Glenn Close) after being hired to do some work at the hotel where Nobbs is living as a man in order to make a living as the hotel waiter. Co-starring Mia Wasikowska.

For Albert Nobbs, we prepped for ages, sort of on and off and in our heads, and then had the physical transformation. We rehearsed for a good couple of weeks. Albert Nobbs was more like rehearsing a stage play in the sense that you’re really creating a character and you’re creating something that is very different from yourself that you then bring more or less defined by the time you start doing it.

Emmy nomination

Nomination0 Comments

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences nominates McTeer for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie at the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards for portraying Clementine Churchill on Into the Storm.

It’s lovely to get back in the business of English history. I had seen The Gathering Storm, which was amazing, and had to work with Hugh, who is such a fantastic English writer. I read all the books and met with her daughter, and I also tried to find recordings of her and how she spoke. Research is my favorite part. I’m a frustrated academic and historian.
