I’ve bought 70 percent of my house off CraigsList! I’ve found so many things: couches, tables, lamps. I love the idea of recycling furniture and there being a history there.

Alba appears on the cover of the December 2010 issue of Elle magazine. She talks about her choice of roles, her personality, and gaining confidence in her craft.
I’d been so afraid of criticism ever since I was young. Every time I’d get a critique or some redirection, I’d always just take it very personally, but now I have no problem with it. It’s just a chance to try things a different way. To play more with a character. It also gives me a chance to have some input, to use my voice.

Alba appears on the cover of the August 2011 issue of Allure magazine. She talks about how having a kid changed her views on her sexuality.
There’s a reason why certain areas of the body are desirable—because it all leads to reproduction. There’s a science behind it all. It’s not just to sell whatever you’re selling on a billboard or a magazine or a movie.

Alba appears on the cover of the August 2011 issue of Latina magazine. She talks about preparing for her second child, balancing motherhood and her career, and having more kids.
After I had Honor I didn’t leave the house for a while. It was all about changing diapers and feedings and still trying to get back in to the routine of my [acting] thing. I love what I do. But unless it’s worth it, I’m not going to spend time away from my daughter. Before I had her, work was all I had. Now it’s not.

Self cover
Alba appears on the cover of the September 2012 issue of Self magazine. She talks about her workout routine, The Honest Company, and going from Hollywood to the business world.
It’s awesome—it really does feel like this is my third baby. It’s a deep passion of mine and I spend all my time at the office. I think it’s a nice balance to Hollywood because it’s so free and it’s so creative and so much of what you do is in someone else’s hands, essentially and this is something that I could actually control and I could see something from the beginning to the end and there’s something really wonderful and fulfilling about that. Especially when it was so hard to get it going for so long. For it to actually be here and exist is pretty cool.
In Style cover
Alba appears on the cover of the February 2013 issue of In Style magazine. She talks about knowing her husband was the one, what she’s learned from motherhood, and her style.
My style is more adventurous since I became a mom. In the past, I was into my uniform of leggings and a sweater. Now I’m willing to try bold prints, bright colors, and different cuts. Never say never, but I probably won’t ever wear booty shorts. I feel pretty confident about that.
Latina cover
Alba appears on the cover of the April 2013 issue of Latina magazine. She talks about choosing roles and non-toxic baby products.
It’s really hard to find baby products that use nontoxic chemicals that moms can trust. Major corporate brands that label their products ‘eco-friendly’ or ‘nontoxic’ are usually referring to the way they make their packaging, not their product.

To me, it’s knowing that if you eat unprocessed fresh food — it doesn’t all have to be organic, but try to have the least amount of GMOs [genetically modified organisms] and pesticides — you have energy, aren’t starving and don’t have to count calories. When I’m ‘dieting,’ I’m not eating as many snacks — because I love snacks. Popchips, Pirate’s Booty – or I could eat a pound of fruit. So I cut down on snacking when I’m trying to be healthy.

Before, I was so fearful of failure and judgment that I was scared to put myself out there. You don’t have to be a robot. You don’t have to be appropriate all the time. I used to be so hard on myself … but you have to realize that as long as you don’t make a habit of it, tomorrow will be here, and everything will be OK.

I have the same food philosophy for myself as I do for my kids. We eat mostly lean protein and fresh fruit and vegetables, nothing processed or from a box, if we can. For me, when I don’t eat a ton of carbs, I have more energy. But I’ll for sure have a piece of chocolate. I will mow through a bowl of guacamole. If I’m not going to have dessert, I’ll have a martini.
