Criticism over his portrait led Paul Emsley to question his work and even try capturing the pregnant royal a second time, this time as more glamorous and upbeat. According to Washington Post, his second version of Kate’s portrait only made him realize the original was exactly what he set out to create. He has not allowed anyone to photograph this second sketch.
I did not deliberately age her or anything like that. I wanted it to be an authentic record, but it’s very easy to put in more shadows and things than are perfectly necessary, and I haven’t done that. I’ve tried to record, in a polite way, what I regard as her natural beauty.
Paul Emsley reveals that he and his family were upset by some of the snarky critiques that followed the unveiling of Middleton’s official portrait
Some of the words written about it were so personal. I’d be inhuman if I said it didn’t affect me. When you take on commissions like this, it is hazardous and you expect a bit of flak, but I expected nothing like the criticism I have received. I didn’t expect it to go to the levels it did.
At first the attacks were so vicious that there was a point where I myself doubted that the portrait of the duchess was any good. But now I’ve had time to reflect, I am still happy with it and am getting on with my life. There is nothing I would have changed.
Paul Emsley, who spent three-and-a-half months painting the Duchess’s likeness, said he had tried to portray her warmth and personality in the picture.
The Duchess reportedly telling Emsley at a private viewing on Friday that it is “amazing… brilliant.”
Charlotte Higgins of the Guardian claimed the painting transformed “a pretty young woman… into something unpleasant from the ‘Twilight’ franchise.
In the Independent, art critic Michael Glover wrote that the portrait was “catastrophic,” combining “hamsterish” cheeks and “hair whose featheriness has been borrowed from an advert for shampoo.”

God our Father, we thank you for our families; for the love that we share and for the joy of our marriage. In the busyness of each day keep our eyes fixed on what is real and important in life and help us to be generous with our time and love and energy. Strengthened by our union help us to serve and comfort those who suffer.
Middleton’s ring is created by Wartski from a piece of such gold that was given to Prince William by Queen Elizabeth shortly after his engagement:
I, William Arthur Philip Louis, take thee, Catherine Elizabeth, to my wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse. For richer, for poorer. In sickness and in health. To love and to cherish, till death us do part.
Scotland Yard estimates one million people line the wedding route.

William appears on the cover of People after dating his girlfriend Middleton for five years. Friends, on their possible engagement:
There are no people advising her or preparing her for anything. She is going about her private life as a private individual. Will, known for his stubborn streak, won’t let anyone dictate a time frame-but also acknowledge an engagement is no longer a matter of if but rather when. This is certainly not something they are going to rush into. But their relationship is very strong.
