Katy Perry is an American singer and songwriter born in 1984 in Santa Barbara, California. Perry has released the albums Katy Hudson, One of the Boys, Teenage Dream, and Prism during her career. Some of her hit singles include I Kissed a Girl, California Gurls, Teenage Dream, E.T., Firework, and Last Friday Night. She has been honored with five MTV Music Awards, four MTV Europe Awards, six Teen Choice Awards, and 14 People’s Choice Awards. Perry was married to actor Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012.

The 12 track record features Perry’s number one single I Kissed a Girl as well as singles Hot n Cold and Waking Up In Vegas. All tracks are written by Perry with collaborations from Greg Wells, Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard.

It’s been a long and winding road that started about five years ago. I came from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles. A fantastic producer named Glen Ballard brought me out here and kind of looked after me. And then I started this thing, where I was signed and dropped, signed and dropped by a couple of labels. Then one day, Capitol Records picked me up and decided they wanted to make a Pretty Woman story out of me, without the prostitution.

One day this person would send me a text and I would be so thrilled about it because I had been waiting for some kind of sign – a smoke signal. He would be all interested and then I would just lose him, or one day he would want to see me and then one day he wouldn’t. I didn’t know what was wrong with him, if he was bipolar, or if he was wearing a mood ring. I took the theme and the song kind of spilled out of me.

Teenage Dream is a euphoric feeling. It gives off this feeling that a lot of people have been through. I remember my teenage years, and I remember falling in love for the first time and how impressionable that was. How sensitive I was to every feeling. Heartbreak was really hard. Of course heartbreak is really hard now, and love is still intense, but it’s a different type of feeling, that teenage love. I want people to have that feeling again of falling in love unabashedly – those teenage dreams.

Perry co-wrote every song on the 12 track record with collaborators Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Benny Blanco and Ester Dean. The record also features singles California Gurls featuring Snoop Dogg and Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) and is the second album in history to have five number one singles, Michael Jackson’s Bad being the first.

After I Kissed a Girl, I knew it would take time to not look like a one-trick pony. This album is a perfect snapshot of where I am mentally and emotionally.

You’ll think it frivolous of me to say I knew I’d marry her on that first date. The truth is I fell in love with her when she hit me with that bottle. She chose me, bottled me and cuffed me. And now this is my life, my girl, this beautiful woman.
