Branagh is the new teacher of the Dark Arts, Gilderoy Lockhart, an egotistical author loved by the people of the wizarding world. His actions complicate the main goals of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, which are to uncover the secrets behind dangerous events as their school years progress, in the second film based on the book by the same by J.K. Rowling, directed by Chris Columbus. Co-starring Dan Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Alan Rickman, and Maggie Smith.

Chris [Columbus] wisely kept me away from [Daniel, Emma, and Rupert] before our first scene together. So in that sense, the first person they met was Gilderoy Lockhart.

Branagh is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie at the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards for portraying Det. Kurt Wallander on Wallander: One Step Behind.

I’m honoured to be nominated amongst such a group of actors and so proud for everyone involved with this first series of Wallander. It was a huge team effort to produce ambitious television – existential angst and mystery in rural Sweden is not an easy pitch – but the public around the world has responded wonderfully, and I’m thrilled by the Academy’s recognition.

Branagh is nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 84th Academy Awards for portraying Laurence Olivier in My Week with Marilyn.

It was a rare honour to play Sir Laurence Olivier. To be recognised by the Academy for doing so is overwhelming. I’m absolutely thrilled.

Branagh discusses his latest project, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, based on the book by Tom Clancy, in this interview for PBS.  He speaks on directing and co-starring in a film in which another one of the actors, Kevin Costner, is a director himself.

Well, you know what I found is that they are very, very sensitive to what you’re going through. I think that they’re aware that the major time preoccupation you have is the logistics, you know. People need answers from you all the time. So they know that people are coming at you and that sometimes messes with your brain.
