Rylance wins first Tony Award for Best Actor (Play) for portraying Robert in Boeing-Boeing at the 62nd Annual Tony Awards.  Rylance’s acceptance speech was the work of Duluth, Minnesota poet Lewis Jenkins.

I tried one of [Jenkins’ works] out at the Drama Desk Awards, and it went down well.

Rylance wins second Tony Award for Best Actor (Play) for portraying Johnny ‘Rooster’ Byron in Jerusalem at the 65th Annual Tony Awards. Rylance again accepted with a poem from poet Lewis Jenkins.

Rylance wins Tony Award for Best Actor (Featured Role – Play) for portraying Olivia in Twelfth Night at the 68th Annual Tony Awards. Rylance said Broadway audiences were

very expressive and enthusiastic and thoughtful.. [it was one of the] rare occasions where what we were doing seemed to make sense to them.

The Shakespearean actor also offered advice to performers tackling the playwright and iambic pentameter.

It lives because each age needs to find the way that the nature of that age can be expressed through Shakespeare
