Mark is interviewed by The National, a daily newspaper in Scotland.
Our aim is to summarise all of the world’s news – past to present. We distribute our news through partners, such as social media fan pages and share advertising revenues with the page owners. People can sign up to be the next set of contributors. They tell us what they are interested in and we help them produce a timeline along the way. Anyone can come in for free and read the timeline or edit it…Facebook used to do a lot of news but now its model has changed where do people go for unbiased news? People can get a left-wing view in the Guardian and a right-wing view if they read the Telegraph but where is the unbiased reference point?
Newslines passes three million monthly page views for November 2016, beating the previous record of 2.6 million in August 2016.
Congratulations to our six (actually seven) contest winners! The contest was a big success with over 460 posts added by 20 participants. On the final day alone 140 posts were added!
Justin wins $40 with a total of 72 posts. Runner up Zander Collison wins $20 with 60 posts. Davis Buskirk, Lynn Schramek, Crisu28 and Gina win $10 each. We are also awarding an extra $10 prize to Natalie Frank as she had some trouble submitting posts at the last minute. Final results are in this spreadsheet. Payments will be made in PayPal later this evening. Our next contest will be in two weeks. Thank you to everyone who participated!
On a personal note, it was great to see the quality of posts improving as the contest progressed, and to see the many different type of topics people are working on. People added posts about Syria, Sandra Bland, Sojourner Truth, Israel, Scott Walker, League of Legends, Donald Trump, Kobe Bryant and many, many more topics. Remember, all posts stay in the system and will continue to increase in value as the site gets more popular.
I will be working to improve the posting speed over the next few weeks and will be starting some discussions about the site in the forum. I’d love it if you could join in.
Heading into the final day of the contest we received 53 posts, with a shout out to Lynn Shrameck, who added an amazing 17 posts today! There are quite a few contestants in the high 20s so the contest is wide open! Results are here.
Posts will be accepted right up to 11:59pm Tuesday. Please remember that only approved posts will be counted, so try to make your last posts as good as they can be so they don’t get rejected.
After the count closes you will have a chance to contact me to make any adjustments to your score, before the winners are announced on Wednesday afternoon. Good luck!

Your earnings are being recorded correctly, but they are not displaying correctly on the earnings page, and some invites are not being recorded correctly. We have improved our event-type filters. You can filter events by clicking the filter icon in the orange header bar and selecting which events, or combination of events, you would like to see. The results will be displayed with their own URL, so you can share them across social media. For example, you can see all of Taylor Swift’s interviews here, her performances here, and her magazine covers here. You can also filter events by clicking on the green event-type tag on each post.
Newslines launches its revenue-share system. The system splits 50% of ad revenues on user-generated pages with the writers, editors who contributed to the site, and to those who invite other users to patrticipate. Writers receive 50-70% of revenues, editors receive 25-30% and networkers receive around 5%. It is the world’s first system to allow for payments for editing other contributors’ posts. Mark:
We hate that the people behind many large sites, and their investors, get rich off of the free work of their contributors. It’s not just that we think people should be paid for their work, we feel strongly that contributors who help build a business should get a share in the growth of the business too. We see our contributors as investors in growth. Just like an investor who has the potential to have a high return as a company grows, if you put an equivalent amount of work into building your portfolio of content, you can share in the rewards.
The $1-per-post program finishes. Since May, 2014, Newslines writers added over 26,000 posts and received over $26,000 in rewards. The first part of Newslines’ revenue-share system — a system that allows qualified writers to become editors and to be paid for their edits — has been completed. The second stage of the system — which calculates the revenue share amounts for each post – is currently being programmed and is due for official release by the end of January.
We have moved hosts. If you see this message, congratulations, you are on the new site.
Today, we made our first Newslines Rewards payments! If you’d like to earn $1 per post, please sign up here.
