Stolen painting to return to France

Picasso La CoiffeuseFederal prosecutors in Brooklyn file papers to return Picasso’s 1911 La Coiffeuse (The Hairdresser) to France, where it was stolen from a Paris museum storage room in 2001. The 100 year -old painting was shipped by Federal Express from Belgium to the U.S. in December  in a package that described it as a $37 “art craft,” and seized at the Port of Newark. Officials said shipper was identified only as “Robert” and the destination was a climate-controlled storage facility in Queens. Lynch:

Visage aux Mans stolen

A Picasso silpicasso platever plate, titled Visage aux Mans, disappears from the Art Basel Miami Beach exhibit. The Miami Police Department investigates the heist, but says there is no video surveillance or witnesses. The piece is valued at $85,000.

Book of sketches sells for $112,500

An abandoned goods public auction in a suburb of Seattle sells a book of sketches carryingPicasso sketches Picasso’s name on the inside cover of the book and a 1912 date. The sketchbook contains 27 pen, charcoal or watercolor renderings. Auctioneer Tim Murphy offers no guarantee of authenticity.

Musee Picasso reopens
