Years ago, when I overcame my agoraphobia, I woke up one day and made the decision to change my life. It wasn’t an easy decision, but I knew the time was right. My family all lost their weight in different ways; there is no one right way. For me, my doctors told me that fighting my diabetes would be easier with less weight, so it was a natural decision. I realized, like we all do, that you have to listen to your doctor.
Sad about Deen racist comments
Oprah gives and interview to Entertainment Tonight and is questioned about the racist comments friend Paula Deen recently made. Oprah also tells a story of recent racism that she experienced.
In the very first days I tried to reach her and then I decided to stay out of it as I saw it blowing up. In time she will be fine. For me, it all just felt kind of sad. Nobody in their right mind is going to call me the N-word. You know, you see those fools on Twitter sometime say ridiculous things. But nobody in their right mind is going to do that to my face, because true racism is being able to have power over somebody else. So that doesn’t happen to me that way.

Deen appears on the cover of People to discuss how her multimillion dollar business was rocked after the scandal she faced involving using racial slurs. She also states that she has changed and moved on with her life.

Documentary announcement
Deen announces the release of a documentary that will delve into the story behind the racist remark that cost her career with Food Network and the support of several sponsors. The documentary will air on Deen’s website The Paula Deen Network.
We hope to have it out the first of the year and tell everybody the true story of what really happened. It was a painful year for me. It was a hurtful year when I found myself being labeled for something I was not.
Today Show appearance
Deen rejoins Matt Lauer on NBC’s Today Show just one year after an emotional appearance on the show where Deen discussed a racist statement she made years earlier. Deen discusses her mental state during the prior year’s appearance and apologizes for the scandal:
That was a woman in trauma, shock, trying to understand what happened. And you know the cold hard fact, Matt, is I probably should not have been here. I should have been home, maybe under the care of a doctor. My words hurt people. They disappointed people, and quite frankly I disappointed myself. And for that I’m so sorry. I’m so, so sorry for the hurt I caused people. Because it went deep.
