The widow alleges the company concealed the health dangers and addictive properties of the product. After a four-week trial, the jury deliberates that the widow will receive $7.3 million in compensatory damages, while their child receives $9.6 million. A second deliberation results in the widow receiving an additional $23.6 billion for punitive damages. The judgement is the largest in Florida history for a case against wrongful death.
