Today Show interview

Interview0 Comments

Rice says it was a ‘mistake’ to not apologize to wife, Janay Rice, at the press conference following the elevator incident, during an interview with Matt Lauer which aired on Today.

The reason why that press conference was the way it was, was because we were still under legal situations. So there wasn’t much that could be said, but I’ll be honest, we were nervous, I was nervous, and that was the first time we were available to speak. And I made a horrendous mistake not apologizing to my wife.

Today interview

Rice discusses the elevator incident involving her and her husband, Ray Rice, in an interview with Matt Lauer at her home in Baltimore that aired on Today. Rice talks about her silence over the past six months.

That’s been the hardest part, is having so much of your life made public and have it all be negative. That’s the hardest part. Is not having control over anything that has to do with you. It’s a natural thing for a human to want to come out and say, ‘No, no. That’s not me,’ or, ‘No, that’s not true.’ But it’s like a battle that we just can’t win.

Defends husband

After Rice’s NFL suspension, Rice’s wife, Janay Rice goes on Instagram to defend her husband.

I woke up this morning feeling like I had a horrible nightmare, feeling like I’m mourning the death of my closest friend. But to have to accept the fact that it’s reality is a nightmare in itself. No one knows the pain that [the] media & unwanted options from the public has caused my family. To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret every day is a horrible thing. To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his ass [off] for all his life just to gain ratings is horrific.

THIS IS OUR LIFE! What don’t you all get. If your intentions were to hurt us, embarrass us, make us feel alone, take all happiness away, you’ve succeeded on so many levels. Just know we will continue to grow & show the world what real love is! Ravensnation we love you!

Domestic violence not acceptable

Obama condemns domestic violence following the Rice incident. Obama implies that domestic violence is contemptible and unacceptable in a civilized society.

Hitting a woman is not something a real man does, and that’s true whether or not an act of violence happens in the public eye, or, far too often, behind closed doors. Stopping domestic violence is something that’s bigger than football – and all of us have a responsibility to put a stop to it.
