It’s a group of boys who are sort of just trapped in this environment called The Glade and it’s surrounded by this treacherous maze. And it’s basically an entire mystery throughout the movie. The story sort of reveals to you as it goes and my character sort of serves as the eyes for the audience. You kind of have no idea why these kids are put there and what’s on the other side of it. It’s basically an action-thriller-mystery kind of thing to figure out what’s going on and why they’re there.

For me I had a lot of issues with my anger, a lot of issues with not knowing how to cope with certain situations, public scrutiny, the whole nine. But I think over time me being able to talk a therapist, and finding out how to deal with even my stint, and the whole rehab thing and jail made me have a different outlook on life and really focus on a more positive scale of what I needed to be doing. So I think with my music and everything else, it always was on a positive front, you know, happier level. But I just wanted to make sure that now it’s more me walking the walk instead of talking the talk. The time that I did spend in there was all-the-way reflection time. You know, being able to look in the mirror at myself and kind of just understand myself, but also love myself. Cause you know, a lot of insecurities come with being an artist and also dealing with your own issues. Especially when you almost have to do it alone. Everybody’s situation is different, but at one point I just felt like I was alone. So being able to realize that I have people who love me and support me and the right people that want to see me succeed, and you know, just my life in general, the mistakes I had made. I had a lot of time to reflect on that and really focus on moving forward and trying to change the perception of myself.

And a lot of them like to break rules, so then you have to have people like myself keeping them in line.

I was dropping both of my kids at two separate schools and my phone started blowing up crazy early in the morning, I must have got 15 texts in the space of about a minute. It’s crazy, it was just a beautiful morning. In our world, that’s a big thing. My wife, she was ecstatic, but she was in London. She’s over there for the premiere of this film, Before I Go to Sleep. I always chuckle because Colin Firth is in this film and I made the mistake one time of telling people, ‘Yeah, she’s in this film Before I Go to Sleep With Colin Firth.’ Punctuation is everything. Everybody wanted to see that film.

Joan was a trailblazer in so many ways, and I greatly admired her talent and humor. She was a colleague and friend, as we worked together on E!, and she was also a treasured guest on my radio show many times. Regardless of the forum, Joan was full of funny, witty surprises and she had so much spirit. She will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to Melissa and her family.

I was out with my girlfriend the night before I wrote this song … and I got heated. I was doing all this fighting training for this show I just finished up [DirecTV’s Kingdom], so I was ready to go. [But] I contained myself … and I came in the next day to the studio and wrote this song. I think it is true … a lot of people can relate with this, a lot of men, they don’t talk about it, it makes them uncomfortable. But I think vulnerability is good and it’s what makes us human.

I’ve been busy. Just making my way back to the stage has been kind of the greatest anticipation of this year and now I’m ready. I’ll be touring on North America in 27 cities and I’m really excited about it. This will be] like no other [tour] before. Twenty years of doing this, musically, I’ve graced every stage there is, but never quite like this. This is going to be a new experience that does not arrive based off of one album, or either the launch of this most-recent album, which I’m not finished yet. I’m still working on it. I just really want to get back on the stage. You see me playing the bass, you see me playing the guitar, you see me playing the drums. It’s just a different experience.

I don’t care. That was amazing. She’s such a pro for coming on, holding her [stuff] together like that and just, like, living and rapping and keeping it together. That was amazing. I thought she did incredibly well, especially given the circumstance.
She also reveals her next album’s title, My Everything.
I felt like A), it was one of my favorite songs on the album, and B), it was just all-encompassing. I felt like it really sort of embodied the work. And yeah, it just felt right, really.
