Super Bowl XXV: New York 20-19 Buffalo
The NFC champion New York Giants win their second Super Bowl in five years with a 20-19 victory over AFC titlist Buffalo. Anderson is named MVP as he rushes 21 times for 102 yards and a touchdown.
Super Bowl XXIV: San Francisco 55-10 Denver
NFC titlist San Francisco wins its fourth Super Bowl championship with a 55-10 victory over AFC champion Denver. Jerry Rice catches seven passes for 148 yards and three touchdowns and is named MVP.
Super Bowl XXIII: San Francisco 20-16 Cincinnati
NFC champion San Francisco captures its third Super Bowl of the 1980s by defeating AFC champion Cincinnati 20-16. Rice is named MVP – his 11 catches for 215 yards is a new Super Bowl-record. Montana also sets a new Super Bowl-record completing 23 of 36 passes for 357 yards and two touchdowns.
Super Bowl XXII: Washington 42-10 Denver
NFC champion Washington win Super Bowl XXII and its second NFL championship of the 1980s with a 42-10 decision over AFC champion Denver. Rookie running back Timmy Smith sets a Super Bowl-record with 22 carries for 204 yards. Smith also scores two touchdowns on runs of 58 and 4 yards.
Super Bowl XXI: New York 39-20 Denver
The NFC champion New York Giants capture their first NFL title since 1956 when they down the AFC champion Denver Broncos 39-20 in Super Bowl XXI. The victory marks the NFC’s fifth NFL title in the past six seasons. Simms passes for 268 yards and scores three touchdowns as he is named MVP. He sets Super Bowl records for most consecutive completions (10) and highest completion percentage (88 percent on 22 completions in 25 attempts).
Super Bowl XX: Chicago 46-10 New England
The NFC champion Chicago Bears, seeking their first NFL title since 1963, score a Super Bowl-record 46 points in downing AFC champion New England 46-10 in Super Bowl XX. The previous record for most points in a Super Bowl was 38, shared by San Francisco in XIX and the Los Angeles Raiders in XVIII.
Super Bowl XIX: San Francisco 38-16 Miami
The San Francisco 49ers capture their second Super Bowl title with a dominating offense and a defense that tames Miami’s explosive passing attack. Montana is named MVP as he sets a new Super Bowl-record completing 24 of 35 passes for 331 yards and three touchdowns. Montana also rushes five times for 59 yards, including a 6-yard touchdown.
Super Bowl XVIII: Los Angeles 38-9 Washington
The Los Angeles Raiders dominate the Washington Redskins from the beginning in Super Bowl XVIII and achieve the most lopsided victory in Super Bowl history, surpassing Green Bay’s 35-10 win over Kansas City in Super Bowl I.
Super Bowl XVII: Washington 27-17 Miami
Fullback John Riggins runs for a Super Bowl-record 166 yards on 38 carries to spark Washington to a 27-17 victory over AFC champion Miami. It is Riggins’s fourth straight 100-yard rushing game during the playoffs, also a record.
Super Bowl XVI: San Francisco 26-21 Cincinnati
Ray Wersching’s Super Bowl record-tying four field goals and Joe Montana’s controlled passing help lift the San Francisco 49ers to their first NFL championship with a 26-21 victory over Cincinnati.
Super Bowl XV: Oakland 27-10 Philadelphia
Jim Plunkett passes for three touchdowns, including an 80-yard strike to Kenny King, as the Raiders become the first wild-card team to win the Super Bowl.
Super Bowl XIV: Pittsburgh 31-19 Los Angeles
Terry Bradshaw completes 14 of 21 passes for 309 yards and sets two passing records as the Steelers become the first team to win four Super Bowls.

Super Bowl XII: Dallas 27-10 Denver
The Cowboys even their Super Bowl record at 2-2 by defeating Denver before a sellout crowd of 75,583, plus 102,010,000 television viewers, the largest audience ever to watch a sporting event. Running back Robert Newhouse, with his first pass since 1975, tosses a 29-yard touchdown pass to Golden Richards with 7:04 remaining in the game to clinch victory for Dallas.
Super Bowl XI: Oakland 32-14 Minnesota
The Raiders win their first NFL championship before a record Super Bowl crowd plus 81 million television viewers, the largest audience ever to watch a sporting event. Running back Clarence Davis’s 137 rushing yards help the Raiders gain 429 yards – a new record.
Super Bowl X: Pittsburgh 21-7 Dallas
The Steelers win the Super Bowl for the second year in a row on Terry Bradshaw’s 64-yard touchdown pass to Lynn Swann and an aggressive defense that snuffs out a late rally by the Cowboys.
