Schilling talks to Shape Magazine about her role in the series Orange Is The New Black.
Ahh, it’s so exciting! I am so excited that so many people are excited. Oh my god, it makes me feel like I’m awake in a dream! It’s such a cool thing because I personally just feel so proud about this project. I’ve never done anything that I’ve been so proud of, that has so many great stories to tell on so many levels that need to be told. This series does that, and I feel so glad to be a part of it. It’s all about real people, real stories, it’s genuine, and it’s honest. That’s what I’ve been craving, and it’s amazing to see that people are responding. It’s also so nice to finally see women on screen embracing themselves, and it’s really a breath of fresh air to see us portrayed so authentically.

Schilling is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy at the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards for portraying Piper Chapman on Orange is the New Black.
Look at us now! Look at us now! I know. I mean, I always knew the story was so good and so important. … At least I would like to hope that story trumps all. I think especially now, when there are so many different ways to watch things.

I think a lot of people don’t realize that she’s a real person. And here’s the thing, the show at this point is definitely inspired by her memoir we go rogue big time. But it’s certainly inspired by it and the first season, what specifically was happening with Piper’s character is lifted directly from Piper’s life experience it’s like a beautiful flavor to the piece.
