Taylor Swift interview
Marie Claire interviews Swift about how personal her song writing is to her and her writing style.
For me, writing a song, I sit down and the process doesn’t really involve me thinking about the demographic of people I’m trying to hit or who I want to be able to relate to the song or what genre of music it falls under. When I sit down and write a song the only person that I’m thinking about in that room is the person that I’m writing the song about and what I want them to know and what I wish I could tell them to their face, but I’m going to say it in a song instead. So, for me, music is really more about a diary and a confession. I love it. I love getting to say things to people that I wouldn’t say to them if I was standing face to face with them. Music is a way of verbalizing those things that I feel that I can’t say.
Taylor Swift interview
Seacrest interviews Swift during On Air With Ryan Seacrest about rumors that she and Taylor Lautner are dating again.
Didn’t hear that one! We’re incredibly close friends but that’s not something that’s newsworthy so people write other stuff. We’re just really good friends.
Taylor Swift interview
Seacrest interviews Swift during On Air With Ryan Seacrest about her belief in soulmates.
There are times when I think there’s just one person for everyone and then there are times where I think that you have to have a few great loves. I’ve had a few great like muses. So, I don’t know if that’s the same as great loves or if that’s just a different category all together.
Taylor Swift interview
Seacrest interviews Swift during On Air With Ryan Seacrest and asks her what is her New Years resolution.
To exercise more that’s super rate-able. I get the feeling this year is gonna be just as good to Taylor as the last one.
Taylor Swift interview
Fallon talks to Swift about the origin of her “Ew!” character, Natalie, and her obsession with crafts as a child on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
I am Natalie, and I like to create popsicle stick castles by myself sometimes. These stories are actually from my childhood.
Taylor Swift interview
Swift guests on Late Night with Seth Meyers to announce her live stream performance on Yahoo. She also shares a story about crashing a fan’s bridal shower, her extraordinarily fresh look after a gym workout, and her lively dancing during award shows.
I like to bring a change of clothes. Also, you know, I think New York is one of those cities that feels worth dressing up for, if that makes any sense. I just feel like when I walk out onto the sidewalk in New York, I have to just try a little harder. But it’s not like an extra hour in the gym. I read that somewhere and I was like, ‘That’s ridiculous.’
Rolling Stone interview
In an interview with Rolling Stone Swift details her recent move to New York and talks about how much she loves living there. (She still owns a condo in Nashville.) The story also reveals the singer won’t attend any country music awards shows and that she rebuffed requests from her record label to include country songs on her upcoming album 1989. She also says she is done with songs relating to past relationships, and is tired of not being taken seriously.
Different phases of your life have different levels of deep, traumatizing heartbreak. And in this period of my life, my heart was not irreparably broken. So it’s not as boy-centric of an album, because my life hasn’t been boy-centric.
Swift goes on to discuss how she has not even been on a date since her last breakup. She intends on concentrating on her her music, and not relying so much on “boys”.
‘It was an honor to wear your creations’
Swift shares a picture of her gown from the Met Gala designed by de la Renta following the news of his death. She captions the photo:
My all-time favorite designer has passed away. Oscar, it was an honor to wear your creations and to know you. In loving memory.
Taylor Swift interview
Seacrest interviews Swift during On Air With Ryan Seacrest about going from country music to pop music.
The best choices are bold choices. With my last album Red, I kind of had one foot in pop and one foot in country, and that’s really no way to walk and get anywhere. If you want to continue to evolve, I think eventually you have to pick a lane, and I just picked the one that felt more natural to me at this point in my life.
Taylor Swift interview
Seacrest interviews Swift during On Air With Ryan Seacrest about secret messages she hides in her album liner notes.
In my album booklets, I love to have the lyrics written out to the songs, but using capital letters I like to encode secret messages into the lyrics. So either all the words are lowercase and there is random capital letters or all the words are capital and there is random lowercase and if you write out all those odd letters, it spells out either a story or a message. I love that part of it. I think an album should be so many different things. It should be even a game.
The Talk interview
Singer, Swift chats about her new album, 1989, her secret society of fans and answers trivial questions:
If what you have dropped is sticky do not eat it off the ground.
US Weekly interview
Swift says she gave up dating because she wants people to focus on her music rather than her love life in an interview with US Weekly.
It broke my heart! I was selling out stadiums and it was all people talked about.
Taylor Swift interview
Walters interviews Swift about her good girl image and the responsibility she feels to her fans.
Well I do drink, I’m 25. But I did wait until I was 21 because I was worried about getting into trouble. I put everyone of my actions through a filter before I do them because that’s the way my life is. If that story gets out or some 10-year-old sees that I did that in a news article, like my actions do have ripples.
Telegraph interview
Swift is interviewed by the Telegraph. She talks about the state of music industry:
We all have to step up and make albums that are good, top to bottom, if selling albums is still important. It is to me, but a lot of artists have already given up on that. I have friends who just think it’s not attainable, which I feel is a very defeatist way to look at life.
Boyfriends:
I used to think it was important to find a boyfriend. I don’t feel that it is now. I just want to have as much fun and as many adventures as possible.
And her feud with Katy Perry:
I’m not giving them anything to write about, I’m never going to talk about her in my interview. It’s not going to happen…It’s not real if someone appears to never have any issues with anyone. I have my friends. I have enemies. I have bad days when I don’t want to go to a photo shoot, but I’m not going to show up four hours late. I’m going to be there on time.
VF interview: Talks about Apple letter
Swift talks about her Apple letter in an interview with Vanity Fair.
I wrote the letter at around four A.M. Sometimes I’ll wake up in the middle of the night and I’ll write a song and I can’t sleep until I finish it, and it was like that with the letter.
She says she was nervous to post the letter online, after receiving negative feedback for her Wall Street Journal op-ed that had also advocated for fair compensation in the music industry. She says didn’t tell Borchetta, and the only person she ran it through before publishing was her mother
She’s always going to be the one. I just said, ‘I’m really scared of this letter, but I had to write it. I might not post it, but I had to say it.’
She compares Apples’ response with Spotify’s:
Apple treated me like I was a voice of a creative community that they actually cared about. I found it really ironic that the multi-billion-dollar company reacted to criticism with humility, and the start-up with no cash flow reacted to criticism like a corporate machine.
VF interview: Healing Kanye rift
Swift talks to Vanity Fair about how Jay-Z helped her heal the relationship with West.
I feel like I wasn’t ready to be friends with [West] until I felt like he had some sort of respect for me, and he wasn’t ready to be friends with me until he had some sort of respect for me—so it was the same issue, and we both reached the same place at the same time,” Swift says. “I became friends with Jay Z, and I think it was important, for Jay Z, for Kanye and I to get along. . . . And then Kanye and I both reached a place where he would say really nice things about my music and what I’ve accomplished, and I could ask him how his kid’s doing.
VF interview: Talks about girlfriends
Swift talks about her relationship with her friends (Lena Dunham, Selena Gomez and Karlie Kloss):
We even have girls in our group who have dated the same people. It’s almost like the sisterhood has such a higher place on the list of priorities for us. It’s so much more important than some guy that it didn’t work out with. When you’ve got this group of girls who need each other as much as we need each other, in this climate, when it’s so hard for women to be understood and portrayed the right way in the media.
