Newton plays Lindsey Wakefield, a down on her luck mother whose life is about to change upon meeting Wesley Deeds in the movie Good Deeds. Lindsey works as a janitor trying to provide for her daughter when she meet Wesley. Wesley, a wealthy man, is known to live a very boring life until he meet Lindsey and all of that changes. Wesley offers to help Lindsey get back on her feet and, though he’s already engaged, romantic sparks begin to fly. Suddenly, Wesley finds himself torn between what is expected of him and what he really wants. Co-stars Tyler Perry and Gabrielle Union.
Lindsey doesn’t see any of this coming, which is why she tries to pretend it is not happening to people around her. She’s still in shock from the fact that her husband is dead when her kid gets taken away. She doesn’t have time to adjust to life before the next thing happens and the next thing. It’s like trying to dig yourself out of an avalanche with a spoon. That’s what she is faced with.
Newton discusses her career and role in the new DirectTV original series, Rogue, in this interview for PBS.
I have been around women who have lost their children in the most horrifying ways, who’ve lost their dignity, who’ve lost their lust for life. They’ve had it crushed out of them. That’s why I wanted to play Grace. I wanted to explore this kind of grief and turn pain into power. That’s what One Billion Rising is all about, is about turning pain to power. So I just find myself finding these projects which are dealing with these themes, and obviously it’s not just about I want to explore it.
Ol Parker, the screenplay writer, will now direct Jimi, (formerly known as Crosstown Traffic), taking over for Paul Greengrass. The project fell apart in 2010 following objections from Hendrix’s estate over the script’s portrayal of the legendary rock star. Hendrix will be played by Anthony Mackie. Thandie Newton will co-star. Noomi Rapace is unconfirmed to Hendrix’s former girlfriend Kathy Etchingham.
The first 30-second teaser trailer for Westwood is released.
