Becomes Daily Show host

Casting0 Comments

Comedy Central announces that Noah is the new host of The Daily Show. Comedy Central president:

Trevor Noah is an enormous talent. He has an insightful and unique point of view, and most importantly, is wickedly funny. For the next host of The Daily Show, we set out to find a fresh voice who can speak to our audience with a keen take on the events of the day, and we found that in Trevor. He has a huge international following and is poised to explode here in America, and we are thrilled to have him join Comedy Central.

Noah:

It’s an honor to follow Jon Stewart. He and the team at The Daily Show have created an incredible show whose impact is felt all over the world. In my brief time with the show they’ve made me feel so welcome. I’m excited to get started and work with such a fantastic group of people.

‘I don’t think of taking over. I’m joining the team.’

In an interview with the Associated Press, Noah talks about The Daily Show and his role. Noah doesn’t consider himself to be taking over the show, but rather he is simply joining a successful team of writers and producers. He goes on to talk about similarities between he and Stewart: they share the same progressive ideology and “think in a global space.” Noah says he is looking forward to being a part of election coverage because he loves the drama surrounding the campaigns.

I don’t think of taking over. I’m joining the team. It’s a huge ship that has won Emmys and Peabodys for a reason, because it’s a fantastic team of writers and producers working to make that show magic…One thing we both share: We are both progressives. Obviously where you’re from may inform a lot of your decisions. But traveling the world I’ve learned that progressives, regardless of their locations, think in a global space…When you are honest in your comedy, you have to acknowledge the world that you’re in. Through a comedic voice you’re talking about what needs to be talked about, whether it’s race relations or politics or anything that’s happening on a global or an American scale. That’s exactly the space “The Daily Show” is in.

Explains leaving Daily Show

Interview0 Comments

Stewart explains why he is leaving The Daily Show:

It’s not like I thought the show wasn’t working any more, or that I didn’t know how to do it. It was more, Yup, it’s working. But I’m not getting the same satisfaction…Honestly, it was a combination of the limitations of my brain and a format that is geared towards following an increasingly redundant process, which is our political process. Another plus of leaving? Not having to watch the news to keep up: Watching these channels all day is incredibly depressing.

Charleston shootings monologue

TV Appearance0 Comments

Stewart speaks about the Charleston Church Shootings in a non-comedic opening monologue:

I didn’t do my job today. And maybe if I wasn’t nearing the end of the run or this wasn’t such a common occurrence maybe I could’ve pulled out of the spiral, but I didn’t.

If America had considered this Islamic terrorism we’ll torture people…We’ve got to do whatever we can to keep Americans safe. Nine people shot in a church, what about that? ‘Hey, what are you gonna do, crazy is as crazy is, right?’ That’s the part that I cannot for the life of me wrap my head around…The Confederate flag flies over South Carolina, and the roads are named for Confederate generals, and the white guy is the one who feels like his country is being taken away from him.

Trump: Stewart ‘begging’ me to appear on final show

Makes Statement0 Comments

Trump claims Stewart wants him to appear on the final show of The Daily Show on August 6:

They have invited me. I like Jon Stewart — I think he’s good. They’re begging me to go on. I would do it … the problem is it looks like pandering. It looks so false and so phony if I do it.

On Obama appearing on the show:

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with President Obama having done it. I know he took a lot of heat, you know, because they said, ‘What are you doing on a comedy show?’ I think it’s OK. It would’ve been better if he had Stewart come over to the White House, because it would’ve cost nothing. Stewart would’ve loved it, and you’d have saved a lot of money.
