Tracy Morgan is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series for his work on NBC’s 30 Rock.
It is an honor to be recognized by my peers and be a part of 30 Rock‘s 22 nominations. I want to thank everyone from Tina to Lorne to everyone in craft services.
Morgan gives interview to Elle about why women cant resist him.
Yeah, it’s because I have a masterful sense of humor. Sure (some may resist). But it would have to be somebody who wouldn’t give me the time of day. It’s different for me, because I can make you laugh within half a second. And I don’t even have to make you laugh; all I have to do is smile at you. Women just want somebody to be friendly. Most men, they just focus on the sex. They never looked in their eyes. You gotta be like Svengali, man! If she’s not spoken for and you come at her correctly, like a man, she’ll get with you.
Fallon says he will win a $100 bet, with an unnamed friend from his past, if he ever hosts The Tonight Show. Moments later, Robert De Niro comes out and hands Fallon a $100 dollar bill, followed by Tina Fey, Joe Namath, Rudy Giuliani, Mariah Carey, Joan Rivers, Kim Kardashian, Seth Rogen, Mike Tyson, Lady Gaga, Lindsey Lohan, Tracy Morgan, and Sarah Jessica Parker. Stephen Colbert is last and dumps a bucket of pennies onto Fallon and his desk.
And to my buddy who said that I’d never be the host of The Tonight Show, and you know who you are, you owe me one hundred bucks, buddy.
One of Hall’s audience members asks Morgan about what he did with one of Michael Jackson’s gloves that he bought
Look at it, that’s it I ain’t gonna put it on. I ain’t earn that right. That’s MJ, he’s magical.
Morgan returns as a guest at Conan to promote his stand-up show Bona Fide. He also talks about his newborn daughter, his alter ago, Chico Devine and how he got kicked out of Prince’s house.
I’ve got to leave Chico alone, I’ve got a beautiful daughter now. Chico Devine got me kicked out of Prince’s house. Prince is a freak, but I’m a big old freak. I’m a little bitty bing bong freak.
Morgan and Jeffrey Millea are airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick and is in critical condition following a 5-car pile-up. Their chauffeured limousine bus was struck from behind by a Walmart truck. New Jersey State police say they believe the Walmart truck driver was dozing and failed to see traffic slowing in front of him before it was too late – rear-ending the Mercedes limo-bus and prompting a chain-reaction crash with a second tractor-trailer, an SUV and two cars. The limo rotated clockwise and flipped over. Police say:
Driver failed to observe slow-moving traffic ahead. He observed at the last minute – just prior to impact – the limo bus carrying Morgan and his party.
McNair, one of Morgan’s writers, dies in the crash. Two other comedians traveling in the bus, Harris Stanton and Ardie Fuqua, were also injured. Morgan’s driver, Tyrone Gale says:
I climbed around and heard Tracy screaming for help. I climbed up on the body of the limo bus…but I couldn’t reach them.
Roper, of Jonesboro, Georgia, is charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto in the early Saturday crash. Morgan and two other passengers remain in critical condition at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J. Morgan’s publicist:
His family is now with him, and he is receiving excellent care. We don’t anticipate much of a change in his condition today.
After undergoing surgery for a broken leg, Morgan’s doctors report that he is more responsive, and consider that a good sign. Morgan also suffers from broken ribs, a broken nose, and a broken femur. His spokesman reports:
We expect him to remain in the hospital for several weeks.
Claiming he is being targeted as a scapegoat because celebrities were involved, driver Kevin Roper sends out tweets of protest over the charges brought against him. Roper sent at least four tweets from his Twitter account, expressing his sorrow over the deaths and injuries, but claiming total lack of blame for the accident. Roper states he was not drunk, high, or sleep deprived at the time of the crash.
Appearing before a state Superior Court judge, Roper pleads not guilty to one charge of death and four charges of assault by auto. Bail for Roper remains at $50,000, and if prosecuted he may receive up to 16 years in prison. Roper is accused of operating his truck after going 24 hours without sleep.
Morgan’s representative announces that the comedian’s medical condition has been upgraded to critical to fair.
Happy to pass along that Tracy has been upgraded to fair condition, which is a great improvement. His personality is certainly starting to come back as well.
Morgan is moved to a rehabilitation center. His rep says:
Tracy has been transferred to an undisclosed rehab center, where he is expected to remain for the next few weeks. While he is continuing to show signs of improvement, he still has a long way to go. He and Megan wanted to publicly express their deepest gratitude to everyone at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for the unbelievable care and attention they provided him.
Morgan sues Walmart over the crash in New Jersey that left him and several others critically injured and killed James McNair. The complaint was filed in the US District Court in New Jersey this week. A Walmart truck traveling 20 miles over the speed limit with a driver operating at almost over his sleep time limit rear-ended the limo bus. The complaint states:
The defendants’ negligence was a substantial contributing factor in causing plaintiffs’ injuries.
Morgan is released from the rehab facility where he has been recovering from injuries sustained in the crash. Morgan’s rep says he will continue to recover at home from a broken leg and broken ribs with an “aggressive outpatient program.”
Morgan’s attorney says that Morgan suffered a brain injury so traumatic in his June limo accident that he may never fully recover.
When you have a traumatic brain injury it takes a very long time to find out how you’re going to do and how much you’re going to recover. You just don’t know. So that’s where he is. He’s still fighting and trying to live his life at the same time and trying to get better, and he’s just not better. We’re hoping and praying to get him back to where he was. But the jury’s out. He’s fighting to get better, and if there’s a chance for him to be back to the Tracy Morgan he once was, he’s going to try to do that. But we just don’t know because of the severity of the injuries that he sustained and the fact that he had such a severe brain injury.
The NTSB rules that Roper is at fault for the fatal accident that killed comic James McNair and seriously injured Morgan. Their report says Roper had driven 800 miles before even reaching Walmart’s distribution center and at the time of the crash and had been up for 28 hours straight. Roper also failed to wear a seat belt and was traveling 20 miles per hour above the 45-mph speed limit when he hit the tour van carrying Morgan and six others. Morgan and the other passenger’s injuries were made worse because all but one of the van’s occupants was wearing a seat belt. The van had also been modified. NTSB Chairman Hart:
The passengers … had no available exits until emergency responders removed part of a plywood panel that had been installed between the passenger compartment and the cab. [The only other way of exiting, a sliding door] had become inoperable in the crash.
NTSB investigators recommended that Wal-Mart improve fatigue management programs for drivers and install better vehicle warning systems for drivers and delivery operators.
NBC says Morgan will host the October 17 episode of Saturday Night Live, returning to Studio 8H for his second time as host.
Wollover and Morgan marry in an “emotional ceremony” attended by friends and Wollover’s two-year-old daughter.
After almost losing Tracy last year, I am so grateful to finally be married to the love of my life. We have been through so much and our love is stronger for it…I’m so excited to see what our future holds and feel so blessed to spend the rest of my life with Tracy.
Morgan returns to SNL, where he performs the opening monologue.
I was in a terrible car crash a year ago. It was awful, but it also showed me how much love and support I have in this world…People are wondering: can he speak? Does he have 100% mental capacity? But the truth is I never had 100%. In might actually be a few points higher now.
He is joined by his 30 Rock co-stars. Fey:
We’re so happy that you’re OK, but we’re even happier that you’re ready to make people laugh again.
