Val Kilmer

Kilmer plays Sheriff Hofstadder in the D.J. Caruso written and directed adaptation of Brock Cole’s The Goats.  This coming of age anti-bullying movie tells the story of two outcast prank victims who run away from summer camp and have an adventure that includes stealing Hofstadder’s car.  Co-starring Chandler Canturbury and Annalise Basso. Val is always misunderstood in a way and he’s one of those actors that are dangerous because you don’t know what he’s thinking. You don’t know what he’s going to do and I felt like Hofstadder was one of those characters that actually was trying to do the right thing, but he was just so off kilter that the way he tried to do the right thing would feel creepy and scary…I felt like Val would be perfect in that. He just had a little window and we basically shot his stuff in a day and a half. It was great to reconnect and work with him and hopefully we can do it again soon because I think he’s one of those treasures that were misunderstood. Before I had worked with him I felt he had gone through some trials and tribulations on set that gave him a bad reputation, but I’ve only had great experiences with him.

In this horror thriller directed by Kevin Carraway, Kilmer plays stranded traveler Bill McCormick. One of a group who find themselves stuck at an isolated old house for the night after an accident, McCormick is gravely injured when he arrives and things only get worse for him and the rest of the group from there. By the end of the night a bizarre curse is revealed.  Co-starring Ving Rhames and Bonnie Summerville. Kilmer plays Dutchman in this action drama directed by Renny Harlin and based on real events. Dutchman is a reporter who tips off and helps fellow journalist Thomas Anders, played by Rupert Friend, to help the people of Georgia against an impending Russian invasion.  Also starring Emmanuelle Chriqui and Richard Coyle.

When I got up this morning, I thought I was making a war movie!

In this crime action movie directed by Jesse Terrero, Kilmer plays Angel, a convict who is let out of prison early to help catch a gang of gun runners after his wife is murdered.  Angel gets in with the gun dealers and helps to bring them down.  Also starring 50 Cent and Annalynne McCord. 50 Cent:

I passed the Val Kilmer test. When he read the script, he said, ‘Yo, this is good. You wrote this?’ He was surprised that I did it.

Kilmer plays Steve Pruit in this crime drama directed by Werner Herzog.  Pruit is a typical cynical post-Katrina New Orleans police officer who watches his partner go from a hero to becoming a drug addicted criminal in cop’s clothing.  Also starring Nicholas Cage, Xzibit, and Eva Mendez. Cage:

I would say that the best actors of my generation that I would call geniuses are Val Kilmer and Robert Downey, Jr. So to get a chance to work with Val was a good thing, and I hope we’ll have more to do together.

In this revenge drama directed by D.J. Caruso, Kilmer plays Danny Parker, a trumpet playing speed freak who is actually Tom Van Allen, a man with a beautiful life before his wife was killed as he helplessly watched, by the dealers during a robbery. Also starring Vincent D’Onofrio, Adam Goldberg and Luis Guzman.

I’m proud of it. It was very challenging and risky with all the different styles that it takes on. If you can imagine reading it, it’s just hard to see working because they almost never do.

In this historical western action drama directed by George P. Cosmotos, Kilmer plays infamous outlaw Doc Holiday.  The story revolves around the events surrounding the gunfight at the O.K. Corral.  Holliday was an outlaw, but he was also Wyatt Earp’s best friend and a superior gambler and gunfighter.  Also starring Kurt Russell, Bill Paxton, and Sam Elliott.

Doc Holliday was fun, though. It was fun to not carry the burden of being the lead. All those responsibilities, but yet still have cool stuff to do. It’s fun to shoot everybody and have such a cute girlfriend.

Kilmer plays Chris Knight in this comedy directed by Martha Coolidge. Knight is a super-genius at a technology school who takes nothing seriously and drives his professor crazy while developing a laser that the professor intends to sell. When the students learn of the professor’s plan, Knight organizes the mother of all pranks and all the students help him pull it off.  Also starring Gabriel Jarett, Michelle Meyrink, and William Atherton. Val was very focused on Val. We got along fine, but I always got the feeling that he didn’t want to share the screen with a 15-year-old punk. In my opinion, Val is a brilliant actor and should be a much bigger star than he is today.
