Seacrest interviews Montag during On Air With Ryan Seacrest about her TV show Famous Food.
It’s mayhem! We need to build a restaurant from scratch. We need to find a concept, agree on it, and build it while competing independently, but we have to work collectively as a group too. Thats what was so difficult! Everyone wants their ideas to stand out, but you have to work together. We have to hire a chef, his staff, and at the end you have the potential of winning some ownership in the restaurant.

I would say the biggest reason is to feel better, to feel perfect. I was made fun of when I was younger, and so I had insecurities, especially after I moved to L.A. People said I had a “Jay Leno chin”; they’d circle it on blogs and say nasty things. It bothered me. And when I watched myself on The Hills, my ears would be sticking out like Dumbo! I just wanted to feel more confident and look in the mirror and be like, “Whoa! That’s me!” I was an ugly duckling before.

Montag appears on the cover of the February 2008 issue of Maxim magazine. She talks about The Hills being scripted and whether she is still friends with L.C. The Hills is a show that’s 22 minutes long about seven people’s lives. It’s edited for drama, and there are editors and story lines. If someone walks in front of the camera, we have to redo the shot. So it’s not exactly how things always are. It’s not like The Truman Show. They’re not with us all the time, although I wish they were, because it would be a way crazier show. Let’s see how Lauren would look then!
