Drops nuggets supplier after animal cruelty video

Makes Statement

McDonald’s and Tyson Foods both sever ties with T&S Farm in Dukedom, Tennessee, which was under contract to Tyson Foods,  after an undercover video, released by Mercy For Animals,  by showed workers stabbing, beating and stomping on chickens in an undercover video shot by animal rights activists. Tyson supplies the chicken meat to McDonald’s. Tyson:

Animal well-being is a priority at our company and we will not tolerate the unacceptable animal treatment shown in this video. Members of our animal well-being team are investigating, however, based on what we currently know, we are terminating the farmer’s contract to grow chickens for us.

[We] find the behavior depicted in this video to be completely unacceptable. We’re committed to working with animal welfare and industry experts to inform our policies that promote better management, strong employee education and verification of practices.

Animal abuse video release

Video footage emerges of animal abuse at a Tyson Foods contract farm in Delaware, showing thousands of birds bred so fast they become crippled under their own weight and workers carelessly kicking, clubbing, and throwing chickens, with many of them being severely ill without veterinary access or food and water. Mercy For Animals calls on Tyson to adopt animal welfare policies to end abuse in some of the chain’s worst farms. Mercy For Animals:

Tyson Foods is literally torturing chickens to death. They are crammed into filthy, windowless sheds, thrown, kicked, and brutalized by careless workers, and bred to grow so fast they suffer from painful leg deformities and heart attacks. This is sickening animal abuse no company with morals should support. Tyson Foods has not only the power, but also the ethical responsibility to end the worst forms of cruelty to animals in its supply chain.
