ITV studio attacked

13 Jun, 2014

ITV‘s World CupITV_protest studio on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro is attacked by demonstrators protesting Brazil’s hosting of the tournament. The attack occurs 10 minutes before the end of the opening Group A match between Brazil and Croatia. The protestors throw rocks, damaging large glass panels on the studio, where pundits Fabio Cannavaro, Lee Dixon and Patrick Vieira are commentating, along with ITV presenter Adrian Chiles who describes the situation:

We were all sitting up here and then suddenly sharp clattering sounds started greeting our ears. That was them pelting the glass of our studio and other studios around here. We did try to explain to them that none of this is our fault at ITV Sport.
