That is the most vulnerable song we’ve ever written. And we felt so alone when we wrote it and it’s so crazy that that is the song that is doing this. We never thought that would be the single.

Chad:

There is actually another sort of Say Something on the album called I Don’t Want to Love Anybody Else. That’s like my Say Something. There’s no happy ending.

Seacrest interviews A Great Big World during On Air With Ryan Seacrest and asks them what their follow up release to the single Say Something is going to be.

This is the question because we have no idea how to follow up that song. I would say I Really Want It or Land of Opportunity or we might have to write you a new song.

Seacrest interviews A Great Big World during On Air With Ryan Seacrest and questions them about the story behind their single Say Something.

I feel like Ian was invested more when we started writing it. Ian was definitely heartbroken the whole way through [writing it]. I didn’t realize I was heartbroken until we started writing the song, like halfway through. There was this girl in my life and it went on for three years and it was un-reciprocated. I thought it was something else and I was younger and I felt something and it was painful but it made me feel alive and I think a lot of it was, I was afraid to let it go I think about it now and I get the chills because it’s so crazy that’s the one that’s connecting to everybody and we felt so alone and now it’s like a healing song and people are listening to it and it’s helping them.
