Sanctions against Russia

The EU has introduced new sanctions on Russia which would take effect on Friday 12 Sept The EU and NATO believes that Russia still have about 1,000 armed troops in east Ukraine. The EU and US accuse the Kremlin of directly helping pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk regions by sending regular soldiers across the border, along with sophisticated weapons including tanks. Moscow denies the allegations.

Charges dropped

Bieber was charged in January for hitting a limousine driver in the back of his head several times, on the way from a night club to a hotel in December in Toronto. Spokesman for the Ontario Attorney’s office, Brendan Crawley, states:

After completing a thorough review and, in consultation with the police, the Crown determined that there was no reasonable prospect of conviction. Accordingly, the charge against Mr. Bieber was withdrawn.

Pledges Ebola funds

The Bill and Melinda Foundation pledged $50 million to help fight the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. The money will be used to help the government purchase supplies, “scale up emergency operations,” and enable international aid.

We are working urgently with our partners to identify the most effective ways to help them save lives now and stop transmission of this deadly disease. We also want to accelerate the development of treatments, vaccines and diagnostics that can help end this epidemic and prevent future outbreaks.

Napping fan sues

Andrew Robert Rector files a lawsuit for $10 million against ESPN and the MLB for comments from ESPN broadcasters Dan Shulman and John Kruk on April 13. Shulman and Kruk talk about Rector taking a nap during the game. Rector’s lawsuit states that he was defamed and suffers from emotional distress as a result of the comments. The lawsuit claims:
