Jenner ‘doesn’t understand what being a woman is about’
McGowan pens an open letter on Facebook about Jenner’s acceptance speech for Glamour’s Woman of the Year award:
Caitlyn Jenner you do not understand what being a woman is about at all. You want to be a woman and stand with us – well learn us. We are more than deciding what to wear. We are more than the stereotypes foisted upon us by people like you. You’re a woman now? Well f***ing learn that we have had a VERY different experience than your life of male privilege.
Fears being sent to men’s jail
In an interview with Lauer on Today, Jenner says she cannot say much about the crash as she is involved in litigation, but admits her fears over possibly being sent to Los Angeles Men’s County Jail should she be charged with misdemeanor manslaughter.
I remember it happening. That’s about it…A tragedy like this, you’ll never get over it. You just learn to live with it the best you possibly can…That [going to men’s jail] is the worst case scenario. I don’t know. We’ll see. The Men’s County Jail. It is an enormous problem that they would put trans-women in Men’s County Jail.
She also says she has no regrets transitioning.
I think about my life — and where I’m at in my life right now. What a tremendous experience this is. Hardly nobody gets to live two genders in their life. Everybody wonders, ‘Oh, what’s it like to be coming from the other side?’ You know, their thinking, the way they act, everything? And here I have the opportunity to do that. And to be honest with you, everything’s so new and fun. From that standpoint, it’s been great. There’s nothing more, nothing better in life to wake up in the morning, look at yourself in the mirror and feel comfortable with yourself and who you are.
May face manslaughter charge
Detectives will present evidence to the prosecution that could lead to a misdemeanor manslaughter charge against Jenner. Because there’s “nothing really egregious” in the case, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Dept. says there’s a “50/50” chance that she will be charged. A misdemeanor manslaughter charge usually carries a one-year jail sentence.
West praises Jenner
West and Kardashian meet with Jenner for the first time following her transition on E!’s I Am Cait. West:
One of the strongest things that have happened in our existence as human beings that are controlled by perception. You couldn’t have been up against more: Like, your daughter is a supermodel, you’re a celebrity, you have every type of thing, and it was still like, ‘f— everybody, this is who I am.’
Discuses VF article
Jenner, Carter and others who worked on the Vanity Fair cover and article talk about their work in a behind-the-scenes short film. Carter:
He was at a stage in his life where he was going to make this seismic change. I thought this cover, if we got it right, with a great image from Annie Leibovitz, you’ve got this incredible cresting political issue of transgender…We brought in the security that we use for the Oscar party, for the Whitehouse Correspondents’ Dinner,” Carter explained. “We had security at the photoshoot, security at the printer.
Jenner:
I’ve basically been inside this house for three months. I haven’t really left. It’s difficult because I can’t go out and be seen by the paparazzi. It was just hell. It was really, really tough on me…It’s been great, so many good people, and love and support. I had this one time where I looked from a distance and I just thought, ‘Oh my god!’ It was the first time I’d ever really seen an image of me, who I am. Over-the-top better than I ever thought I’d ever be, especially at my age. Seeing that image was powerful to me.

Crash images released
ET releases surveillance camera images of Jenner’s crash. The images, shot from two angles by security cameras on a passing public bus, appear to show Jenner’s Cadillac Escalade, which was towing a trailer carrying an off-road vehicle, hitting both a white Lexus, driven by Howe, and a black Prius. Howe collides with a black Hummer, and dies in the crash. Jenner’s attorney:
As part of a reasonable investigation, we have seen parts of an MTA bus video, and when all of the photographic and video evidence of this tragic accident, and all available witness information, is made available to us, we will be in a better position to make fair comments.
Twitter announcement
Jenner makes her first statement since the Vanity fair article:
I'm so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can't wait for you to get to know her/me.

Vanity Fair video
The magazine releases a video of Jenner’s photo shoot:
I was probably at the games because I was running away from a lot of things. I’m very very proud of the accomplishment. I don’t want to diminish that. The last few days in doing this shoot is about my life, and who I am as a person. It’s not about the fanfare. It’s not about people cheering in the stadium. It’s not about going down he street and everybody giving me an ‘Attaboy Bruce’ pat on the back. This is about your life. Bruce always had to tell a lie. He was always living that lie. Every day he always had a secret, from morning ’til night. Caitlyn doesn’t have any secrets. As soon as the Vanity Fair cover comes out, I’m free.
Vanity Fair cover
Jenner comes out as Caitlyn on the cover of Vanity Fair., appearing in a corset in a photo by Liebowitz.
If I was lying on my deathbed and I had kept this secret and never ever did anything about it, I would be lying there saying, ‘You just blew your entire life. You never dealt with yourself,’ and I don’t want that to happen.
In the article she describes doing public appearances after winning the gold medal:
Underneath my suit I have a bra and panty hose and this and that and thinking to myself, They know nothing about me. . . . Little did they know I was totally empty inside. Caitlyn. doesn’t have any lies.

Comes out as transgender
Jenner comes out as an transgender in an interview with Swayer.
For all intents and purposes, I am a woman. My heart and my soul and all I do in life, that is part of me…People look at me differently. They see you as this macho male, but my heart and my soul and everything that I do in life — it is part of me. That female side is part of me.
Jenner also says he is a Republican:
I’ve always been more on the conservative side.
And a Christian:
I would sit in church and always wonder, ‘In God’s eyes, how does he see me?’ Maybe this is my cause in life. This is why God put me on this earth…to deal with this issue.
‘We fully support him’
Jenner’s sister Mettler says she fully supports Jenner’s transition from male to female.
Oh my god yes, Bruce and I talk all the time. We are all very close. Bruce often comes to visit me here, we are best friends. We fully support him.
Car crash statement
Jenner releases statement regarding the crash.
My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident. It is a devastating tragedy, and I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them. I will continue to cooperate in every way possible.
The Talk interview
Jenner chats about the aging process and her divorce from Bruce:
It’s not an easy thing I think that you chose to do things…..like I went through a divorce a long time ago with Robert Kardashian and it was not fun. It was so scary and I was so young and I had four kids and then we ended up being best friends. You can chose to do things in a real grown up way and be friends through something and make it so that everyone around you is comfortable and happy.
