Danis: McGregor loves MMA too much to retire

Makes Statement0 Comments

Danis, McGregor’s jiu-jitsu partner, say that the Irishman will not retire from MMA.

MMA’s his passion so he’ll go back to that for sure. At the end of the day we’re all competitive…I know him, this is his love, this is his passion…I think he’ll knock [Mayweather] out [in] under six rounds.

Danis: McGregor will ‘pick Nurmagomedov apart’

Makes Statement0 Comments

Danis comments on a potential fight between Nurmagomedov and McGregor, in the event that Nurmagomedov beats Tony Ferguson at UFC 209 in March.

[Khabib’s] too easily hit. If you saw in the Michael Johnson fight, he was getting like wobbled and rocked every time they were on the feet. So Conor is going to pick him apart like he does all the wrestlers. He hits you from everywhere and he kicks you in the stomach. And people don’t see those shots on TV, like some of those deep kicks and some of the kicks to the stomach, but those take the wind out of you. And when you basically have to take someone down, it puts a different kind of feeling in your stomach ad in your gut when you have to take the guy down. The guy’s beating you up on the feet, and when you go to the ground he’s elbowing you. So I think Conor puts him away in probably one or two rounds with strikes.

Danis challenges Jones to grappling bout

Makes Statement0 Comments

Appearing to test a move into MMA from jiu-jitsu, Danis calls out Jones pure grappling skills.

He wants to step into my realm, but he doesn’t understand. I would play with him. My jiu-jitsu is a different level. Let’s be honest, Dan [Henderson] is about 45-years old and has two submissions out of 47 fights, but [Jones’ performance] was OK, I guess…He’ll need to beg me. I don’t show up for just anybody.

‘Danis is an animal’

Makes Statement0 Comments

McGregor talks about his jiu-jitsu training partner.

This is a different part of the game also. We’ve been in here, we’ve been fighting him, we haven’t been slacking off on him, we’ve been putting him into uncomfortable situations as well. Fighters come from a grappling base and not many at all adjust to a full fight, to a free fight, and I think that’s because of the preparations. You start adding blows into the equation, you start adding elbows, knees, all of a sudden everything changes in the game, so we’ve been putting him in this uncomfortable situations. He’s only young, he’s only 22, 23, but he’s a big boy. The boy is an animal, and when the boy switches it on, he switches it on…If he wants to do MMA, I’ll more than happily guide him in that path. I’ve helped many before him and I’ll help many after him climb the ranks.

Danis: ‘McGregor is going to knock Alvarez out cold’

Makes Statement0 Comments

Danis. McGregor’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu trainer, talks about his relationship with McGregor.

I’m here for him. We help each other. I wouldn’t say I’m just helping him because he also helps me a lot. My mind – everything. We’re a good tag-team, I think. He’s my brother from Ireland. I have my brothers back home in New York and now I have my brothers here too. Coming in obviously I had watched Conor and I knew his mind-set and mine was similar so I figured we could click because we have a lot of the same ideas and the same thoughts. I really knew it would be a good connection, but it ended up being super-cool.

On their ‘there is no opponent’ strategy:

My coach always emphasises not worrying about the other person. I think sometimes when you worry about the other person, you forget to do your game. I’m always going forward and being aggressive. Fuck whatever they’re doing.

On Alvarez:

Conor is going to knock him out cold. As John Kavanagh would say, Conor could knock someone out in a phone booth so if Eddie tries to get close he’s going to get lit up. We’re ready for everything.
