Barrymore plays Edith “Little Edie” Beale, daughter of Edith “Big Edie” Bouvier Beale, in this biographical drama written and directed by Michael Sucsy and based on a true story. Little Edie tries to make a life for herself away from her mother and their home, Grey Gardens, but is drawn back to her and together they descend into squalor and isolation. Co-starring Jessica Lange and Jeanne Tripplehorn. On becoming Little Edie:
I knew it wasn’t something I would be talented enough to step into a few weeks before. I’m like a valley girl who is in opposition to Edie, so I knew I had to take a lot of time to become her, learn her mannerisms, change my facial structure to make it like hers. I just wanted to be her.
