MTV interview

O’Brien discusses Jennifer Lawrence on MTV News:

Oh, she’d kick my ass. It’s always weird when people say to me, ‘these movies are usually coming out with female leads. How does it feel to be a male lead?’ I’m like, ‘I feel like it’s way cooler to be the female lead.’ It’s kind of too generic, a male lead. I think it’s cooler that that [YA] trend is female-driven.

Seacrest interviews O’Brien during On Air With Ryan Seacrest about his role in the film The Maze Runner.

It’s a group of boys who are sort of just trapped in this environment called The Glade and it’s surrounded by this treacherous maze. And it’s basically an entire mystery throughout the movie. The story sort of reveals to you as it goes and my character sort of serves as the eyes for the audience. You kind of have no idea why these kids are put there and what’s on the other side of it. It’s basically an action-thriller-mystery kind of thing to figure out what’s going on and why they’re there.

Collider interview

Interview0 Comments

O’Brien is interviewed on set for Collider and talks about how his haircut almost cost him the role, the pressure of the role, and his friendship with co-stars. On his on-screen rivalry with Poulter:

It’s actually uncomfortable! We’re so funny. Even tonight, what we’re doing right now. We wrestle. He’s vicious. He’s scowling. He’s the antagonist of the movie and I’m the protagonist. Wes always says we’re opposite sides of the same coin, so we’re always supposed to be butting heads. Even after every take, he’ll go, “Are you okay?” I’ll go, “Yeah, are you?” He’ll go, “Yeah, but oh, I hit your knee!” And I go, “Yeah, my knee is fine! But how’s your elbow?” It’s just hilarious. We’re buddies off screen, as we all are.
