Esquire’s ‘Sexiest Woman Alive’
Esquire gives its cover to Clarke for its annual Sexiest Woman Alive issue. In the interview she says she had to look up the Game of Thrones series online before auditioning for the role.
I had two scenes which told me nothing and not very much time in which to read all those [George R.R. Martin] books. So I did what every good actor does and Wikipedia’d the living crap out of it.

I went back to Game of Thrones and it was like coming home. Just the smell of the hotel in Belfast made me feel safe…I told myself, forget the big game plan; all I want is to do jobs that make me happy.

This is the most physical transformation I’ve ever done. But I haven’t done anything before this—I’ve done Game of Thrones and that’s about it. With Dany, it’s all CGI dragons, so not much training is needed.
