Some of the popular movies he has appeared in include October Sky, Donnie Darko, The Day After Tomorrow, Brokeback Mountain, The Good Girl, and Source Code. Gyllenhaal has earned honors such as two MTV Movie Awards, a Hollywood Film Festival Award, a BAFTA Award, and a Young Hollywood Award. He has formerly dated actresses Kirstin Dunst and Resse Witherspoon as well as singer Taylor Swift.

I lured her to do the movie by telling her that [Brokeback] wasn’t our love story, this one should be. We’re going to learn the hard, dirty, rough parts of ourselves and share them at the same time.
