Bell reaches out as her character Princess Anna from Frozen, to Avery Huffman, a young girl battling a severe form of cancer:

My sister Elsa has decided to crown you as an honorary princess of Arundel!

Avery’s father:

You can’t even describe the emotion that my wife and I felt when we see Avery’s face. And I’ve watched the video probably 60, 70 times just to see the giggle, the smile, the shock and excitement on her face, not only that princess Anna is calling her, but crowing her an honorary princess,

Avery hears from Anna...

Veronica Mars

Film Appearance0 Comments

Bell plays Veronica Mars, a new law school graduate and former teen sleuth, in this dark dramedy directed by Rob Thomas. Veronica, now living in New York,  is interviewing with law firms when she gets a call from high school boyfriend Logan Echolls.  He’s been arrested for murder and needs Veronica to solve the case and save him from prison. Veronica is reluctant to return to Neptune but is drawn by friends, family, and her true calling.  Co-starring Enrico Colantoni and Jason Dohring.

We have fast-forwarded 10 years, and in those 10 years, we have met a Veronica who needs to simplify her life. She is desperate to escape the drama and thinks if she can adapt a normal person’s lifestyle, then she can live happily. But the more she runs away from who she is, the more trouble she runs into. She’s living in New York, trying to be just an everyday gal. She’s still snarky, and she’s still herself at her core, but she’s attempting to create the elements around her to be not as turbulent as they were in Neptune. She hasn’t talked to Logan in 10 years.

Kristen Bell interview

Interview0 Comments

Seacrest interviews Bell during On Air With Ryan Seacrest and questions her about her campain to ban paparazzi from taking photos of children.

It just occurred to me no one was working on the demand side. So I wanted to start a conversation with people, much like when we all found out there is pink slime in our meat, no one wanted to eat it. When you find something nasty goes into procuring something for you as a consumer, your feelings about it change. I think people who look at pictures of kids, like kids. I don’t think they realize it actually creates a really unhealthy and unsafe environment for the child.

Frozen

Bell plays Anna in this Disney animation. A spell cast by her sister Elsa (Idina Menzel) traps a kingdom in eternal winter, so she must team up with Kristoff, a mountain man, to find Elsa and  put an end to the icy spell.  Co-starring Josh Gad, and Jonathan Groff.

It was very much a collaboration. It wasn’t that I asked them to rewrite her so much as I offered up wild suggestions around every corner. It was a surprisingly collaborative process, actually, because they wanted the movie to be very truthful. And I was put in a position where they were ready to hear my opinions on the subject, and that isn’t always why an actor gets hired. So I was lucky.

I don’t fault anyone who wants a big day – especially girls. [But] we get more than enough attention in our everyday lives. I also wear more than enough party dresses.

Writes post about father’s death

Dax Shepard Kristen Bell Father's deathShepard writes about the death of his father from cancer and how he and his father visited the many homes they had lived in when he was a child:

We had a lot of fun together during those four months. We took long car rides through the back roads of rural Michigan. We spent a weekend visiting every single house and apartment the two of us had ever lived in. There were 28 between the two of us. Together we had only shared three of those places: a single-wide mobile home from 0-1 years-old, a small, brick ranch on a few acres in the middle of nowhere from 1-3 years-old, and a modern, middle-class home in a McMansion-ee neighborhood from 15-16 years-old. It was that gap between 3 and 15 years-old that caused most of our issues. He was a selfish asshole, and I lived to hold a grudge, so it was a thoroughly symbiotic pairing. The car rides proved to be shockingly therapeutic. One of the hidden benefits of cancer is that it can erode grudges the way WD-40 dissolves rust. It just finds it’s way into all the nooks and crannies and starts loosening. Before long, the once formidable chip on my shoulder had melded into something the size of a nicotine patch. Apologies were exchanged. Tears were had. Hugs were frequent and lingering. I spent the majority of our time together running my hand lightly over the tiny little hairs peaking out from the back of his soft, bald head. He let me do that for hours. Without any awareness of it at the time, the trips home turned into a proper Alexander Payne Movie. It became one of the more beautiful experiences of my life.

Bell had been shooting in Los Angeles, but flew to Detroit to surprise them.

It was an amazing, incredible, perfectly timed surprise. She lifted her shirt up and he put his hand on her swollen stomach. He left it there for the better part of an hour. He was smiling from ear to ear, sitting contently, unable to put together a sentence, but still capable of connecting to the new family member we were creating. He wasn’t going to make it to the birth, but that didn’t get in the way of him meeting the new baby. It was an emotional and triumphant moment. One I will never forget. If I live to be a thousand, I will still be in debt to my wife for giving him that one last thrill.

Kristen Bell interview

Seacrest interviews Bell during On Air With Ryan Seacrest and asks her if there will be a Veronica Mars Movie.

If I have my choice, there will be, and it will be before I am in a nursing home I’m telling you, if I have any control over it. We have tried to package it a few times in a few ways and it keeps getting caught up in the legal department as everything good does, and you know, so we just continue to try to push and let them know that there’s a fan base for it.

Bell talks about starring in the film Hit & Run with Shepard:

You couldn’t find two more extremes. He used to be a drug addict, and I don’t know if I’ve even seen cocaine at a party, let alone done it. When I found out that my Prince Charming has gone on five-day benders where no one could find him, I was like, Wait, what?
