Williams appears as Arya Stark in the tenth episode of the fourth season of Game of Thrones, The Children. Rory McCann plays Sandor Clegane, the kingsguard deserter known as the Hound who is holding Arya captive. Gwendoline Christie plays Brienne of Tarth, a female warrior loyal to the Starks. Daniel Portman plays Podrick Payne, Brienne’s companion. Brienne and Podrick catch sight of Arya while she is practicing swordfighting. Brienne states that she has sworn loyalty to Arya’s family and that she will take her to safety. However the Hound notices a sword given to Brienne by Jaime Lannister and accuses her of being a Lannister loyalist. The pair fight, with Brienne winning a brutal battle. Arya hides, and emerges only after Brienne and Podrick have gone off in search of her. The Hound pleads for a merciful death, but she leaves him to die from his wounds. She takes a horse to the coast of the Vale and asks a ship’s captain to take her to the North. He refuses, and says the ship is traveling to the free city of Braavos. Remembering the codewords given to her by the Braavosi assassin Jaqen H’ghar, Arya is able to board the ship and sail from Westeros.
