Sports Illustrator cover

Magazine Cover

MoneDavisCoverDavis is the first Little Leaguer to be featured on a Sports Illustrator cover. Albert Chen:

She’s a lot of things to a lot of different people, all of them good things: a totem for inner-city baseball, a role model for your 10-year-old niece, a role model for your 10-year-old nephew. Most of all, she’s a laid-back kid just having a really good time.

LLWS record

Davis becomes the sixth girl to collect a hit in LLWS history. As the Philadeplhia Taney Dragons take on a Texas team, she delivers an RBI single in the first inning. The Dragons score a 7-6 walk-off, to advance in the tournament.

Now, it’s baseball. Next, hopefully, it will be me in a UConn jersey.

Davis earns her team a spot in the Little League World Series after throwing a three-hitter against the Delaware-Newark National Little League game.

I was kind of nervous but I was, like, excited for it. So I just have to be myself.

Basketball dreams

Davis reveals her favorite sport is basketball, she has dreams to play point guard for the University of Connecticut. Davis never thinks that she will be famous for baseball, she prefers basketball and could possibly do both sports.

Now, it’s baseball. Next, hopefully, it will be me in a UConn jersey.

Basketball practice invitation

Youth league coach, Steve Bandura invites Davis to a basketball practice and she comprehends the drills right away. Despite having never picked up a baseball glove in her life she and Bandura join the team. Davis:

It does mean a lot to be the first American girl, but more girls should start joining boys’ teams.

Noticed by coach

Davis is throwing a football to a group of boys when youth league coach, Steve Bandura notices her. She joins the Taney Dragons. Davis:

Throwing 70 mph — THAT’S throwing like a girl.
