‘He put his finger down my rear cleavage’

Interview

Morrissey expands on his TSA encounter in an interview with King on Larry King Now.

I had been through the full scanner and I had been through the second bit, so everything was fine and clear, and then he went straight for my private bits and then he put his finger down my rear cleavage.

TSA official:

TSA takes all allegations of misconduct seriously and strives to treat every passenger with dignity and respect. Upon review of closed circuit TV footage, TSA determined that the supervised officer followed standard operating procedures in the screening of this individual.

Accuses airport officer of sexual assault

Accusation

Morrissey accuses a male San Francisco airport officer of sexually assaulting him during a search on 27 July:

Before I could gather my belongings from the usual array of trays I was approached by an “airport security officer” who stopped me, crouched before me and groped my penis and testicles. He quickly moved away as an older “airport security officer” approached. The officer who sexually assaulted me was identified as the General Manager On Duty.

He claims the incident was witnessed by two British Airways staff members, who encourage him to file a complaint. Before he does so, he confronts the officer:

Morrissey: You have just sexually groped this man.
Officer: That’s just your opinion.
Morrissey: What you have done is illegal.
Officer: That’s just your opinion.
Morrissey: You have no right to do what you have just done.
Officer: That’s just your opinion.

Apart from “that’s just your opinion”, he would not comment, even though, since the penis and testicles were mine and no one else’s, then my opinion must surely have some meaning. But, of course, what the airport security officer was saying was: your opinion will never count in the eyes of the law.

Trinity College award

Other Awards

Morrissey is offered a Gold Medal of Honorary Patronage of Trinity College’s Philosophical Society for his outstanding contribution to music:

My initial reaction is to feel undeserving … my contribution to music being such that no record label on the planet has either the nerve or the imagination to sign me!

Criticizes Smith, Sheeran’s spontaneity

Makes Statement

Morrissey laments the dearth of spontaneous, uncontrolled musicians, citing Smith and Sheeran as examples:

There are no bands or singers who become successful without overwhelming marketing. There are no surprise success stories. Everything is stringently controlled, obvious and predictable and has exactly the same content. So, we are now in the era of marketed pop stars, which means that the labels fully control the charts, and consequently the public has lost interest. It’s very rare that a record label does something for the good of music. Thus we are force-fed such as Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, which at least means that things can’t possibly get any worse. It is sad, though. There’s no spontaneity now, and it all seems to be unsalvageable.

Cancer announcement

Announcement

While on tour in Europe, Morrissey reveals he has gone through a series of cancer treatments.

They have scraped cancerous tissues four times already, but whatever. If I die, then I die. And if I don’t, then I don’t. Right now I feel good. I am aware that in some of my recent photos I look somewhat unhealthy, but that’s what illness can do. I’m not going to worry about that, I’ll rest when I’m dead.

‘No difference between eating animals and pedophilia’

Makes Statement

In an online interview, Morrissey compares eating animals to pedophilia, claiming both are ‘rape, violence, murder,’:

They are both rape, violence, murder. If I’m introduced to anyone who eats beings, I walk away. Imagine, for example, if you were in a nightclub and someone said to you, ‘Hello, I enjoy bloodshed, throat-slitting and the destruction of life,’ well, I doubt if you’d want to exchange phone numbers…If you believe in the abattoir then you would support Auschwitz. There’s no difference. People who disagree with this statement have probably never been inside an abattoir.

‘I nearly voted for UKIP’, ‘Peckhams’ should be flogged

Morissey tells Loaded magazine:

I nearly voted for UKIP. I like Nigel Farage a great deal. His views are quite logical – especially where Europe is concerned, although it was plain daft of him to applaud the lavish expense of the royal wedding at a time when working-class England were told to cut back, shut-up and get stuffed.

He also tells the magazine about his dislike of David & Victoria Beckham:

I’d… have the Peckhams dragged to the edge of the village and flogged because they are insufferable to anyone of intelligence, and theyactively chase the paparazzi. We don’t seem to realise that David and Victoria Peckham will soon be back and god forbid they will be bestowed with titles Sir and Lady Peckham, this is what’s wrong with this country, we don’t seem to care. Football often seems to me to have no meaning whatsoever other than just to be there. It can’t be elevated any higher because so many footballers are paid £200,000 a week, yet couldn’t identify a harp.

Morrissey: Duchess does not care about nurse

Morrissey, the ex-Smiths singer, in an interview with a New Zealand radio station, claimed the Duchess of Cambridge did not care about the death of her hospital nurse found dead after being tricked by two DJs in the hoax call scandal:

There’s no blame placed on Kate Middleton, who was in the hospital as far as I could see for absolutely no reason. She feels no shame about the death of this woman. She’s saying nothing about the death of this poor woman,’ The arrogance of the British royals is absolutely staggering. Why it’s allowed to be I really don’t know. I’m sure the Palace and Clarence House put maximum pressure on this poor receptionist and nurse, and of course that’s kept away from the press. By this time next week, she’ll be forgotten.

Morrissey, a well-known anti-Monarchist, also said the Royal family was a “dictatorship”. A Clarence House spokesman told the Daily Mail it would not be making any response to Morrissey’s remarks.

‘Chinese a sub-species’

In an interview in Guardian Weekend magazine, Morrissey, a vegetarian and animal rights advocate described the treatment of animals in China::

Did you see the thing on the news about their treatment of animals and animal welfare? Absolutely horrific. You can’t help but feel that the Chinese are a subspecies.

A spokesman for Love Music Hate Racism, which received a donation of £28,000 from the singer in 2008, said it would be unable to accept support from Morrissey again if he did not rescind or dispute today’s comments.

It really is just crude racism

Morrissey followed up with a statement:

If anyone has seen the horrific and unwatchable footage of the Chinese cat and dog trade – animals skinned alive – then they could not possibly argue in favour of China as a caring nation. There are no animal protection laws in China and this results in the worst animal abuse and cruelty on the planet. It is indefensible.
