Spurs fail to see off Sunderland as the Wearsiders twice come from behind to draw the game. Nacer Chadli’s third goal of the season, and Christian Eriksen’s first, are not enough to give Spurs the points. A solo effort from Adam Johnson and an own goal by Harry Kane give the home side an undeserved share of the spoils as they only have one shot on target in the entire game.
Tottenham draw at Sunderland but lead the game twice. Nacer Chadli scores in the second minute of the game but his goal is leveled two minutes later by Adam Johnson. The second half opens with a goal from Christian Eriksen three minutes in, but an own goal in the 82nd minute by Harry Kane denies his side the three points. Poyet:
It was an incredible game. Without a doubt the most difficult we have had. I thought we played better but the opposition was the best we have played so far.

It was a good game to watch. We played a very good first half, going forward taking chances and creating half opportunities after conceding at what was the wrong time really because we were in control of the game. It was a big effort.
Goals from Toure, Nasri and Navas secure the trophy for Manchester City after Borini had given the Wearsiders a shock 10th minute lead. In their sixth visit to Wembley in three years the Citizens secure their third League Cup triumph in front of 84,697 fans. The match was Sunderland’s first appearance in a League Cup Final since losing 1-0 to Norwich City in the 1985 Final.
Norwich City win their second League Cup at the expense of Sunderland. The game is historic as the tie is the first to be decided by an own goal – Gordon Chisholm, the unlucky Wearsider. Both clubs are relegated to Division 2 at the end of the season.
