Rumour: Kompany out at Man City
Kompany is left out of the squad for the Champions League defeat in Barcelona. Despite Kompany being fit and available to face Barcelona following a brief comeback against Everton, Guardiola put teenage defender Pablo Maffeo on the bench instead. Kompany is understood to have grown increasingly frustrated and was involved in an angry confrontation with Aleksandar Kolarov in training before the Manchester derby.
Contract extended
Goalkeeper Hart signs a contract, which will have him defending the net for Manchester City through the 2018-2019 season. The England international is pleased to be extending his stay at the Etihad Stadium.
I’m really happy, I’ve been here a long time now and I want to keep that going.
Manchester City 4-1 Spurs
A game of four penalties – two scored, two missed – and a four goal haul by Sergio Aguero does not tell the full story of this classic encounter that ends with the Champions victorious over a Spurs side that contribute much to the game but leave Manchester empty handed. Augero and Christian Eriksen share early goals before the penalty drama begins. Aguero scores his first penalty but misses his second to make the score 2-1 at the break. Roberto Soldado misses a chance to level from the spot for Spurs before Aguero nets the final spot-kick of the game to make the score 3-1. A red card for Spurs’ debutant Federico Fazio rubs salt in the wounds and allows Aguero to net his 4th against the 10 men.
Bayern Munich 1-0 Man City
Bayern win through a late strike by Jerome Boateng, who comes through against his former side in the 89th minute to give them the first Champions League competition win. The hosts get most of the chances in the first 45 minutes of the competition through Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski but thier strikes round the keeper and side netting, while the visitors get their own chance through David Silva, whose attempt is stopped at the post by Manuel Neur. Manuel Pellegrini serves his last match of the coach touchline ban.
Stoke City 1-0 Manchester City
Stoke rise to ninth on the table after giving Manchester city a setback to their title defence ambitions. On the 19th minute the Potters appeal for a penalty when Alexander Kolarov appears to foul Mame Diuof, but are turned down. Reges Fenando limps off in the 38th minute and is replaced by Luis Fernandinho. A few minutes later Yaya Toure hits the cross bar from close range and this marks the end of first half. The only goal comes in 58 minutes when Diuof dribbles down the ball to the center of the pitch and into the area sending a low shot to beat Joe Hart. Pellegrini:
It’s a surprising defeat because we don’t expect to lose against Stoke but these games sometimes happen. We tried from everywhere and really we are not very creative. We did not find the space and that is credit to Stoke
Match preview
