In the days when we had a summit and we call the top black athletes together to talk to Muhammed Ali about his status with the forces, there were some athletes we didn’t call. So if I had to call that summit all over there would be some athletes I wouldn’t call. Kobe would be one of them.

It’s not this kids fault that kid’s parents decided that they didn’t want to be parents so now they’re in a foster home. So now that he’s in a foster home, he doesn’t get some of the opportunities that somebody that grew up with a mother and father gets, I don’t think that’s fair.

Me with the Robin Hood project my accountant asked if I wanted to make a tax id so I could get the money back. I just told him that it wasn’t about that. The money I give it comes from my heart. Well it comes from my bank account but it comes straight from my heart. There is no certain thing that I donate to.

They talk about his memory of his father and how he got upset for the first time recently as he thinks about his father.

The way he dressed, his whole charisma, his style, his swag and so I celebrate him you know, it’s in my genes. He had a hustler’s spirit. It’s just a blessing and that’s why it’s so important to me with my six kids to make sure that they know that I’m there for them.

We didn’t have a car to get where we had to go so we had to catch the bus a lot of different places. So I remember carrying groceries in the hot sun and I remember asking myself ‘how does my dad do this?’, you know what I’m saying? I was this little kid so I really didn’t want to do that, but I had to ’cause my dad was like, ‘Boy you gon’ carry them groceries, you gon’ get on this bus’. It just made me a better person today, you know to appreciate everything, you know nothing was handed down.
