We went into the writing session thinking we need to write something that just kicks butt, and Chris DeStefano, I call him a little mad scientist on all of his Pro Tools stuff — he, like, plays every instrument you could possibly think of, and he, like, started makin’ this track, and we started…we just went. It was fast. We wrote it fast, and it’s just fun! It’s upbeat, it’s fun, you stomp your feet, and you can dance to it. It’s got this really rockin’ verse, and this really, like, rockin’ country chorus. So, it’s just a really cool song

Carrie had had this thought that, I believe, she read about in a book that life is a temporary home. I think it’s an amazing song and feel pretty proud to be a part of the writing process for a song like that. I hear so many people talk about how they were so touched by it. I had messages on my e-mail, Facebook and Twitter saying, ‘This song helped me get through something traumatic.’ I think the song is great and is a beautiful three-part story about how [everything is] OK; this is just temporary, and you’ll get through it.

I think to every woman, this song would be telling a story about someone they know or met or has tried to pick them up in a bar. There’s definitely guys in my past, even if it was a friend’s boyfriend or something.We’re not trashing this guy; we’re just warning these other girls about him. Who knows, maybe now people can listen to this song and better identify these men. I’m helping women around the world!

I met a guy at an after-party and asked him his last name 3 times, but it never stuck. He got my number, we talked a few times, and I didn’t know what his last name was. I was way past the point where I should have known his last name, and if I asked him, I knew it would offend him.

All-American Girl

Years ago I got together with a voice coach briefly and I hated it, because I felt like they tried to change things that, like, would make me me, you know? There’s been a lot of growth over the past two years. I think I sound different now. I’ve gotten a lot more practice and everything’s just gotten easier. Like, notes that I could barely hit for the first album – like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is gonna kill me’ – are a piece of cake now. We’re on to new notes now that are way in the stratosphere. On All-American Girl, the high note is the highest I’ve ever hit.
