Sister: Conor helps me conquer my fears
McGregor’s sister, Erin, says that her brother inspires her.
I wear my heart on my sleeve – what you see is what you get – pretty much like actually like my brother. He’s an ordinary fella who had a dream in his hand and went for it. All it takes is determination, passion and talent…He literally rolls with all adversities…he gives me inspiration to do things for me and to not listen to the negative thoughts coming into my head. He helps me to conquer my own fears.
‘A hell of a fighter’
McGregor writes a tribute to Carvalho:
Terrible news regarding Joao Carvalho. To see a young man doing what he loves, competing for a chance at a better life, and then to have it taken away is truly heartbreaking.
We are just men and women doing something we love in the hope of a better life for ourselves and our families. Nobody involved in combat sports of any kind wants to see this. It is such a rare occurrence that I don’t know how to take this. I was ringside supporting my teammate, and the fight was so back and forth, that I just can’t understand it.
My condolences go out to Joao’s family and his team. Their man was a hell of a fighter and will be sorely missed by all. Combat sport is a crazy game and with the recent incident in boxing and now this in MMA, it is a sad time to be a fighter and a fight fan. It is easy for those on the outside to criticise our way of living, but for the millions of people around the world who have had their lives, their health, their fitness and their mental strength all changed for the better through combat, this is truly a bitter pill to swallow. We have lost one of us. I hope we remember Joao as a champion, who pursued his dream doing what he loved, and show him the eternal respect and admiration he deserves. Rest in peace, Joao.
Tyson: McGregor a ‘phenomenal’ personality
In an interview with Fighters Only, Tyson praises McGregor.
Conor is very charismatic. Jon Jones is bad, but deep down he’s a decent kind of person and very shy. Whereas this guy, Conor, he’s the man. He reminds me of the old-time boxers, one of those guys that’s just into everything. He walks into the room and everybody stands up. He sucks the air out of the room. He’s just a really interesting guy. He does things nobody else has been able to do too. He’s kind of like an animated character, one that’s real though. He’s a great fighter, but his personality is even bigger than his talent. Isn’t that crazy? He’s got this huge personality. Nobody in MMA has ever had a personality as big as his. Ronda [Rousey] is just like a monster—the things she would do—but this guy is different. His personality is phenomenal…It’s actually not even about the money, it’s the power. That’s what it’s all about. We never say it, but that’s what he wants: power. That’s why we put out lives on the brink of destruction, because we want to grasp that power. Nothing else matters. We almost want to give our lives up in pursuit of it. It’s worth dying and killing for.

McGregor praises Fertitta
McGregor praises Fertitta.
I came up under Lorenzo Fertitta and the Fertitta regime. Nobody in the history of the fight game has come up as fast and as young as I have. I now, at 28 years of age, have my eyes firmly set on the ‘highest paid fighter’ and ‘highest earning athlete’ accolades. Understand and respect what you are witnessing here. Because not one of you can do nothing to stop it.

Hunnam says he was inspired by McGregor
Charlie Hunnam says McGregor inspires his role in King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.
While I was playing Arthur, I thought an enormous amount about Conor McGregor, the reigning lightweight champion of the UFC. His attitude is ‘There is no opponent. I am fighting myself in the octagon. It’s only me and my own fears and the execution of my own ability that is going to win or lose a fight for me.”
