McGregor is the first UFC champion from the Republic of Ireland. During the fight he spends much of the first two rounds on his back, but he finishes the fight a big left hand that puts Mendes down in the 58th second of the second round. McGregor pounds away for the stoppage and then jumps onto the cage in celebration.
