Axel speaks to WWE.com about helping The Rock and Brock Lesnar get back into wrestling shape before their respective returns.
I think that I gained some trust within the WWE organization, and they picked me because they had faith in me being safe, not injuring him and really making him step up his game to get his wind ready, and his body back in shape for all the strenuous activity he was about to endure at WrestleMania. So I think they just had trust in me, and I think that’s what it boiled down to.

Miz vs Axel vs Barrett – Intercontinental Title
Axel defeats Miz and Barrett in triple threat action at WWE Payback to obtain the Intercontinental Championship. Axel picks up the pinfall victory over Barrett at ten minutes and thirty-five seconds.

Axel is born in Champlin, Minnesota. He is the son of WWE legend, “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig and grandson of Larry “The Ax” Hennig. Due to his family’s involvement in wrestling he develops an early interest in the sport.
