The Married With Children cast reunites to honor Sagal’s star on o the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Ex-husband O’Neill recalls working with Sagal, and the chemistry between the cast.
I met Katey in 1986. We were both trying out for the parts of Al and Peg Bundy. We didn’t know each other. We just had a feeling that we had chemistry between us. Of course, we did the show for 11 years. It was a great experience. We grew together as a great cast and great friends, and the whole family is here today.
O’Neill discusses his five seasons on Modern Family and 11 seasons on Married With Children in an interview with PBS.
I don’t know what to make of it. You know, the funny thing is that when they hired me in this one, in Modern Family, I’m not sure that they knew quite what to do with me because as it was written the guy was what I’m playing now, which is a very successful businessman. And I think they were thinking, “Al Bundy? Shoe salesman? Maybe we’ll…” The pilot, I was kind of like, you know, selling mufflers or something. They never said.

After all of these years in the industry, I am so touched and honored to be nominated for the first time for an Emmy Award—especially on such a great show that I look forward to coming to everyday.
