Clarke’s character Daenerys Targaryen appears in Baelor, the ninth episode of season one, alongside Jason Momoa as her husband, Khal Dothraki horselord Drogo, and Iain Glen as Ser Jorah Mormont, the Westerosi knight. Daenerys grows concerned that a wound Khal Drogo sustained fighting for her honour is growing infected. When Khal Drogo falls from his horse, a sign of weakness among the Dothraki, she insists that he be treated by a healer woman captured from a village by the Dothraki. Ser Jorah warns her to leave, as if Khal Drogo dies the new leader of the Dothraki will kill her unborn son as his heir. The healer promises to save Drogo but says she must take a life in return. She leads his stallion into his tent and begins to sacrifice it, angering the Dothraki and forcing Ser Jorah to kill a warrior who threatens Daenerys. Daenerys begins to go into labour, but none of the Dothraki midwives will help her as they believe she is cursed.
