Backstage cover

Magazine Cover0 Comments

Blunt appears on the cover of a December 2014 issue of Backstage magazine. She talks about playing the Baker’s wife in Into the Woods.

I think it’s the best part I’ve been given. She’s really funny, and she’s desperate and frenzied and immoral. She screws up and regrets. She’s human. She has faults. She’s bored. She’s all of the above. She gets seduced by the woods maybe more than anybody. I know everyone has these incredibly profound thoughts on what they think the woods are. But I think the woods are the trials of life.

It was the only way I could speak fluently. Kids found it funny, and I can understand. There’s a frankness to the way they say, ‘What’s wrong with you? Why can’t you just say it?’

I was so starstruck … we were at the White House having cocktails and this woman said, ‘Would you like to meet President Obama?’ They introduced me and then he turned to me and went, ‘Oh. Oh. You are a wonderful actress.’ And I laughed, screechingly and hysterically, I couldn’t stop. They had to usher me away. I fell apart. I don’t know what happened to me. He looked 9-feet tall. I think my eyes rolled back in my head. I gave Michelle a hug and she had skin like silk.
