Became U.S. citizen ‘for tax reasons’

Interview

In an interview with The Sunday Times Blunt says she became a U.S. citizen for practical purposes.

It’s mainly for tax reasons. I didn’t want to renounce my Queen…The thing that’s weird is I do get to keep both my British citizenship and this, but you have to renounce her. So, it’s kind of typically American — not to be rude — but I had to renounce her in the room but I don’t actually, technically renounce her. They were like, ‘Just say it. You don’t have to mean it, but just say it.’..You have to learn all about the Constitution. You can’t be a habitual drunk, you can’t be on a guerrilla squad and you can’t be a prostitute, which is a shame.

Into the Woods

Blunt plays The Baker’s Wife, a woman who longs for a child, in this musical directed by Rob Marshall from the stage musical written by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim. The Baker and The Baker’s Wife have been cursed into a childless existence by their next door neighbor, The Witch, and go on a quest she orders in order to have the curse reversed. Co-starring Meryl Streep, James Corden, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, and Johnny Depp.

I think it’s the best part I’ve been given. She’s really funny, and she’s desperate and frenzied and immoral. She screws up and regrets. She’s human. She has faults. She’s bored. She’s all of the above.

Magazine Cover

Blunt appears on the cover of a December 2014 issue of The Edit UK magazine. She talks about raising her child.

There used to be one book that everyone read, now there’s How to Raise a Gluten-free Baby, How to Raise a Scientific Baby … It’s insanity! So I haven’t read anything, I’m just letting her do her own thing.

Blunt appears on the cover of a December 2014 issue of Backstage magazine. She talks about playing the Baker’s wife in Into the Woods.

I think it’s the best part I’ve been given. She’s really funny, and she’s desperate and frenzied and immoral. She screws up and regrets. She’s human. She has faults. She’s bored. She’s all of the above. She gets seduced by the woods maybe more than anybody. I know everyone has these incredibly profound thoughts on what they think the woods are. But I think the woods are the trials of life.

Blunt appears on the cover of the July 2014 issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK magazine. She talks about being pregnant.

I loved being pregnant. Most people probably don’t like hearing that because some women have a terrible time, but I really liked it.

Baby Hazel Photo

Krasinski and Blunt release photos of their infant daughter, Hazel, who is four months old. The proud father and his wife had decided to hold off on releasing earlier photos of the baby, in order to enjoy her privately. The parents are against selling photos of their children to new media outlets. The parents feel that baby photos should be shared with fans, directly from parents instead of the press.

California Style cover

Magazine Cover

Blunt appears on the cover of the December 2012 issue of California Style magazine. She talks about filming an action movie and her childhood stutter.

I had a really bad stutter as a kid, and the thing that got me out of it was to imagine I was someone else—to take on a new identity via silly voice or by mimicking. It was the only way I could speak fluently. Kids found it funny, and I can understand. There’s a frankness to the way they say, ‘What’s wrong with you? Why can’t you just say it?’

We want to have children; I just don’t know when yet. I’m just not sure about the timing of all of that. We’re both from big families so I think it’s something we want

Blunt appears on the cover of the May 2012 issue of Elle UK magazine. She talks about meeting President Obama, her stutter as a child, and her style.

I was so starstruck … we were at the White House having cocktails and this woman said, ‘Would you like to meet President Obama?’ They introduced me and then he turned to me and went, ‘Oh. Oh. You are a wonderful actress.’ And I laughed, screechingly and hysterically, I couldn’t stop. They had to usher me away. I fell apart. I don’t know what happened to me. He looked 9-feet tall. I think my eyes rolled back in my head. I gave Michelle a hug and she had skin like silk.

Los Angeles Times cover

Magazine Cover

Blunt appears on the cover of the February 2010 issue of Los Angeles Times magazine. She talks about paparazzi and Photoshop.

I told him not to make me thinner. I hate when your legs are three times the length they actually are. I heard they could raise your nipples if you have a slightly see-through top, lift your bum—they can do everything. I can understand there are things like shadows they need to fix after a shoot, but it’s unfair to represent an image of yourself if it’s not true. They’re gonna see what you look like on film anyway, so why try to cover all your wobbly bits in a photo?

Blunt appears on the cover of the December 2009 issue of Los Angeles Confidential magazine. She talks about her movie The Adjustment Bureau, her fiancé, and dance training.

Yeah. Every day I’m in dance boot camp. It’s a wonderful idea to have the girl be a dancer, but it’s very high maintenance. I’m really loving the challenge. I’m training with this amazing ballet company, and it’s been a real awakening for me when it comes to fitness. Everything hurts all the time.

Magazine Cover

Blunt appears on the cover of the April 2009 issue of Movieline magazine. She talks about going to Comic-Con.

We had a couple mini-Darth Vaders. But the questions were mainly directed at Rick Baker, who’s like the king of Comic-Con, and Benicio, who’s known for Sin City. I’m sure there was, like, a lukewarm clap when I came out. But we were so lucky to have Rick. There’s something frighteningly human about the look of the Wolf Man.

The Devil Wears Prada

Film Appearance

Blunt plays Emily, the first assistant, in this comedy directed by David Frankel. Naïve college graduate Andrea Sachs accepts a job as second assistant to Miranda Priestley, the ruthless executive editor of Runway, a fashion magazine. Co-starring Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci.

I actually thought she was even colder in the script and in the book as well. I think all of us tried to make the characters as dynamic as possible and bring our own take to them.
