Wow! Could this really be happening? That was my first thought when I heard the news that Dream Theater had just been nominated for our first GRAMMY. It still makes me smile every time I think about it and the reality of receiving such an honor still hasn’t set in.

Alabama Shakes is a Grammy nominee for Best Rock Performance for Always Alright.

I feel like we’ve progressed in growing as songwriters, and while they’re different in that respect, it’s still not unbelievable that it’s the same band. It still sounds like Alabama Shakes, just experimenting with other sounds.

Pretty Lights is a Grammy nominee for Best Dance/Electronica Album for A Color Map Of The Sun.

I think the most exciting aspect of my Grammy nomination is that there’s some sort of paradigm shift happening where electronic music has become a bigger genre of music that doesn’t necessarily describe anything more specific than “music made with a computer,” and the category of “best electronic album” is representing the breadth of the genre well. Kaskade is more a traditional idea of electronic music, while Disclosure has the newer singer-songwriter appeal, and Daft Punk of course is a classic powerhouse act, and then there’s me who is kind of far left old soul and funk beats.
