Kate Beckinsale is an English actress noted for her roles in Van Helsing, Underworld, and the 2012 remake of Total Recall. She was born in 1973 in Finsbury Park, London, and later attended Oxford University. Before rising to fame in the US with a leading role in the break-out film Pearl Harbor, she appeared in a number of British period dramas. She is married to director Len Wiseman and has a daughter with actor Michael Sheen.

At the age of five, the actress losses her father, British actor Richard Beckinsale, to a sudden heart attack. He was at the height of his career at the time and was a British household name starring in two English sitcoms: Rising Damp and Porridge. Richard was 31 years of age.

I started expecting bad things to happen, that friends will leave, that loved ones will die. It kept building until I had a nervous breakdown when I was a teenager.
