Recreates Titanic scene on cliff
While guest starring on Grylls’ show Running with Bear Grylls, Winslet recreates the infamous Titanic scene on a cliff in Wales.
Jack, I feel like I’m flying! Alright, come on, get me down this f**king thing.
Harper’s Bazaar cover
Winslet appears on the cover of Bazaar’s March edition. She talks about aging.
What is so gorgeous, so really, truly, bloody gorgeous about being the age I am is that all the ridiculous angst that I might once have felt about having a bit of cellulite, or being a bit puffy in the face, or whatever, has just evaporated. I simply can’t believe I ever spent any time wasting my life on that nonsense.
Harper’s Bazaar interview
Winslet discusses her life post new baby and new marriage in this interview for Harper’s Bazaar. On going back and forth between her private and public life:
It’s a very strange place to be because the truth is, I’m not famous until I am in those moments. Those are the times when I am suddenly famous. My real life is a very real life. And I know I say this all the time, but it’s really true. Thank God.
Divergent
0 CommentsWinslet plays Jeanine, leader of the Erudite faction, in this science fiction thriller directed by Neil Burger and based on the novel by Veronica Roth. In a dystopian world, there are five factions to which everyone belongs, choosing their faction when they are 16 years old: Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave), and Erudite (the intelligent). Jeanine and her faction work to overthrow Abnegation, as they are the faction that governs society. Co-starring Shailene Woodley, Tony Goldwyn, and Ashley Judd. On accepting the role:
I didn’t have any hesitation at all. It was such a great script. It’s a fantastic book.

Winslet appears on the cover of the February 2014 issue of Glamour UK magazine. She talks about motherhood, falling in love, and acting nerves.
My life is not a soap opera people would like it to be; in fact, it’s not a soap opera at all.
Concern for Miley Cyrus
0 CommentsWinslet shares her fears for Miley Cyrus, and all young actors and musicians.
I mean, you think about someone like Miley Cyrus, and I said to my daughter the other day, ‘I’m this close to opening my mouth about what’s going on with that girl’. Who is actually saying, ‘Stop for a second, what do you want, who are you?’
She also comments on raising her children amidst social media.
We live in a world where we have to be aware of all this stuff, unfortunately. And it’s feeding this young generation in a way that’s beyond terrifying, so normal friendships aren’t even normal friendships anymore because, half the time, they seem to be forging relationships with people they’ve never met.

0 CommentsWinslet plays Adele, a single mother, in this drama written and directed by Jason Reitman. A fugitive from prison forces Adele to take him back to her house to care for his injuries. The fugitive, Frank (Josh Brolin), gradually reveals what sent him to prison and he and Adele end up falling in love. On the character:
She is a woman who has a gigantic heart, and, certainly in her past, it beat much fuller and faster. I felt very strongly that through Frank and falling in love with him some of those sides of her would come back to life a little bit.
Bear Winslet born
Winslet and RocknRoll welcome their first baby boy together, Winslet’s third child. The boy is born at an NHS hospital in Sussex Asked if the child would take the father’s name:
We haven’t ever really had that conversation; it was always going to have my name. My other children] Mia and Joe have it as part of their name, so it would be weird if this baby didn’t. Of course we’re not going to call it Rocknroll. People might judge all they like, but I’m a f****** grown-up.
Vogue cover
Winslet appears on the cover of the November 2013 issue of Vogue. She discusses her marriage, pregnancy, and how her life is better.
At the moment I seem to be wanting orange juice a lot. I don’t know quite why that is, but it’s not so weird. I wish I could tell you I had some weird craving. I wish I could be like that woman on the advert who loves tuna fish and banana, but I’m not like that at all.

0 CommentsWinslet plays Beth, a single woman, in this comedy consisting of 14 separate sketches. Winslet’s sketch, The Catch, is directed by Peter Farrelly. Beth goes on a blind date with Davis (Hugh Jackman), a man who has testicles on his neck. Farrelly on Winslet:
I will say this: she’s got a great sense of humor, and it’s dark. We were on the set about two minutes, and we were dropping bombs back and forth. I thought, oh my God, she’s filthy—but in a very fun, cool way. I always loved Kate Winslet, but after you meet her you really love her because she’s a cool chick.
Winslet, RocknRoll marry
Winslet marries RocknRoll in a top-secret ceremony that even their parents don’t know about. Leonardo DiCaprio is present and walks her down the aisle and it is just their close friends and some family. Winslet’s spokesman says:
I can confirm that Kate Winslet married Ned Rock’nRoll in NY earlier this month in a private ceremony attended by her two children and a very few friends and family. The couple had been engaged since the summer.
Wins Emmy
Winslet wins the Emmy Award for Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie at the 63rd Annual Emmy Awards for portraying Mildred Pierce in Mildred Pierce.
I was truly, really unprepared. I didn’t think I was going to win at all. I’m so thrilled to have won this and the way it came out.
Contagion
0 CommentsWinslet plays Dr. Erin Mears, a doctor working for the CDC, in this science fiction thriller directed by Steven Soderbergh. When an unknown virus begins ravaging the country, Dr. Mears goes to Minnesota to investigate and organize a public response. Co-starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, Laurence Fishburne, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Marion Cotillard. On working with Soderbergh:
It was an absolutely incredible opportunity, I feel so happy to have worked with Steven Soderergh. I learnt such a great deal from him, I’d admired his work for such a long time. I also admire his choices and the risks that he takes as a director.
Carnage
0 CommentsWinslet plays Nancy Cowan, mother to a boy who hit another boy with a stick, in this drama directed by Roman Polanski from the play by Yasmina Reza. After Nancy’s son Zachary hits Ethan, Nancy and her husband Alan (Christoph Waltz) go to Ethan’s home to discuss what happened with his parents. Co-starring John C. Reilly and Jodie Foster.
If Roman Polanski invites you to join in any project, you really don’t say no. I had seen the play in New York so I was already very much a fan on the piece. I just felt extremely fortunate to be included.
Necker house fire
Branson’s house on Necker Island burns down in a fire as the area is hit by Hurricane Irene. Winslet is among the guests, and carries Branson’s 90-year-old mother, Eve, to safety after his son Sam alerts them to the blaze. Branson:
Around 20 people were in the house and they all managed to get out and they are all fine … We had a really bad tropical storm with winds up to 90mph. A big lightning storm came around 4am and hit the house. It took hold incredibly quickly, with flames 100ft high. It ripped through the house very quickly. Sam heard explosions in the main house and raised the alarm. He and my nephew Jack rushed to the house and helped get everyone out.
Kate Winslet, her boyfriend and her family were there and Holly and some of her friends were also staying. My mother was there and they managed to get her out and she is fine. The main house is completely destroyed and the fire is not yet completely out. My office was based in the house and I have lost thousands of photographs and my notebooks, which is very sad. But all family and friends are well – which in the end is all that really matters.
Emmy nomination
Winslet is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards for portraying Mildred Pierce on Mildred Pierce.
I am completely beside myself with joy that Mildred Pierce has received such tremendous acknowledgment!!!! I am incredibly proud to be a part of this great production.
Mildred Pierce
0 CommentsWinslet plays Mildred Pierce, a divorcee with two daughters during the Great Depression, in this five part miniseries drama directed by Todd Haynes from the novel by James M. Cain. After divorcing her husband, Pierce finds work as a waitress, later opening her own restaurant. Her daughter Veda (Evan Rachel Wood) rebels against her at every turn. Co-starring Melissa Leo and Guy Pearce.
Mildred does a very good job of pretending to be strong — something I think a lot of mothers do. But I don’t think even she realizes how vulnerable she is just beneath the surface of her determination and survival instinct. It had been a really long time since that rawness had to be so alarmingly accessible to me and I didn’t really like it!
Wins Oscar
Winslet wins Best Actress at the 81st Academy Awards for portraying Hanna Schmitz in The Reader.
That’s a career-defining moment when you get to stand along someone like Meryl. And so I honestly did not think for one second that it was going to be me.
